Forest CNC Post Update

Good Morning,

I figured I would share what I have found with the community, if you are running a Forest CNC WITH AN ATC the stock post from Autodesk calls for a T0 tool change at the end of the program as well as omitting the M30 command which has caused a few issues for our machine. The attached post has been edited to 1. accept all forms of file names not just numbers, 2. automatically turn on the ATC option in the NC program window, 3. removed T0 change at the end of the program, 4. adds the M30 to the end of the post. Disclaimer I have not used this post extensively but is proving to work so far.

I was helping to run a simple Fusion 360 cut on a Forrest CNC with ATC.  We used the post program from the Fusion library, today, and had a strange issue.  X and Y motion was correct but Z was lower than set at Part 0. Fusion had Z=0 at the top surface of the stock which is where we touched off the one tool.. We then ran a separate job using the Forrest provided program and cut proceeded as normal.  Is that a problem you've had?

I have not had the problem with this post. Are you saying that when you changed post processors, then it worked? Was it cutting lower than expected? This post is pretty old at this point.

Thanks for your reply.  Seems it was a dumb error on my part. The Post Processor has a check box I was supposed to select for an ATC. Check that and it puts the tool change and tool height lines in the gcode. By failing to check that box it did not account for tool height and so it cut way deeper. Good thing I run a couple of inches high when trying a program.

That is interesting. when you load the post, it should automatically change that option.

I downloaded your post but have not loaded it. My plan was to load it the next time I visited the High School shop.  The post we used was from the Fusion Library and it had that ATC checkbox option.  It sounds like your post is still the better solution, eliminating the option.  Comparing gcodes between a program that worked and the one that did not, we found two lines were missing because ATC was not checked. That was the tool change "M6 T1" and tool height "G43 H1" lines.   The teacher edited those two lines into the program that didn't work, now it works.

Oh, and thank you for posting. I searched looking for anyone with Forrest CNC experience, and am thankful you posted.

Yeah, i believe that was what our issue was as well, which prompted this post's creation. Let me know if the post works next time you use it.
