Filleted edge / Outside Rounding with Ball End mill toolpath issue

Can someone help me with this issue. This is a .375"x3.5"x4" component with a outside rounding at the top edge. I am trying to use a ball end mill with first an adaptive and then a ramp. The fillet is .04" and the ball end mill is .1875".

I keep getting this cusp at the top of the part and cant figure out how to dial it out. Its as if the tool needs to start higher on the material before it starts cutting. If I adjust the heights it doesnt seem to help and dont see any other settings that would effect this.

Thanks all!!!

Hi @Anonymous,

Try the Flow or (Blend if this is turned ON) operation for this round face.

I’d really like to resolve without a multiaxis operation as I don’t have a multiaxis machine. I tried flow but couldn’t figure out how to get it to work with this geometry.

I don’t see why I shouldn’t be able to make what I have work. I will run into this issue again I am sure....

Also don’t know what Blend is.

Thanks for the reply!!

Try the Scallop operation. This operation seems to leave less of a cusp if any at the top of fillets.

Hi @Anonymous,

Sorry for my delay.

I had a busy day.

Fir what I see in the picture you have to split up the toolpath.

So the radius can be done (depending on How the model is created) with flow, blend or Scalup like @john.h said.

The steep contour can be done with contour.

The radius can also be done by the advanced Steep & Shallow operation.

To use this feature you have to buy the Extensions (upper right corner).

The Blend operation is only visible when you activate Beta Mode. Be casefull it is still Beta.
