Engraving Text with a V-Groove Bit

Hey all,

I came for you for help once again.  I work for an architectural millwork company, we've been using AlphaCAM for years and we are making the big switch over to Fusion 360.  I've used the program for many years but engraving text into parts is one thing we do all the time and I'm not sure how to efficiently do it in Fusion.  Can anyone out there send me a video of setting up and machining text quick on a 1" thick square 1/32" deep into the material? 

I can do it relatively fast in AlphaCAM by changing the text to geometry and just clicking 'Rough/Finish' and it will follow the center of the lines with the V-Bit, assuming I can do the same in Fusion 360.

It would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much

Also I think it's worth noting, I am created the V-Bit using the 'Chamfer' bit from the library. I believe this also may be limiting my options. Any input would be great thanks

I would also like to note, I am looking to engrave into the part without having to Extrude the text into the part.

If you are just doing Single Line Font text then probably the easiest toolpath is to use is the "Trace" toolpath, you can set the depth of cut without doing any modelling 🙂 🙂 🙂

To engrave text on a surface:

1) Sketch the text onto the surface using a Single Line font. Right click and Explode the text.

2) In Manufacture, use the "Trace" function, setting an Axial Offset value of your desired depth of cut. Select the exploded text

I may be missing something, but I don't explode the text.

Create new sketch on surface.

Create text. Location, direction, font, etc.

Switch to manufacture.

New setup, stock etc.

Trace, select created text with 1 click.

Simulate.

And maybe it makes a difference using a ball endmill instead of a V groove bit.

When you sim the toolpath turn the model off, the sim can look wrong with the model turned on.
