easy 3d tutorial?

Having a hard time with 3d geometry. For example in the attached I can only get the round part in the geometry if I raise the heights 0.5 above the part? why? How would you set this to machine. I dont even care to finish round could be step cut as it is now .

 

Tried the posts and youtube but just not clicking in my 2d brain

You boundary selection don't leave room for the cutter.

Thank You I will read thru the tutorials some more. I am somewhat OK with 2d machining just trying to understand the thought process for 3d. Tried suggested boundrysettings but still needed to raise top height 0.5 above stock to get the sloping concentric of the radius.

Your max stepdown is too big, try 0.01" or less. Also you'd probably want to use a bullnose cutter.
