Distributed Design

Hopefully someone can help me, or tell me I can't do what I am trying to do.

I have a CAD of a double vise set up.   I use this to cut top and a bottom part using G54/G55 operation.

I would like to take the Vises that I already have modeled up and save them in a new project for a different part.   However when I try to import them into the new project, I am getting the Distributed design error and and it is not allowing me to import them.

I realize that I could just turn off the parts that are in there right now, move jaws, and place new part in there and carry on.   However I would like it in a different folder for clarity sake on my part.

What are the mechanics of this error, and is there a simple fix?   Is it because I have other parts that are linked into that project?  Like to know so I don't design myself into a corner in the future.

Thanks in advance,

KC

I actually have an entire Project called Vises and Fixturing in which I have our VF-6SS Chick Subplate, One-Lok vise, and dual station vise modeled (imported really, from the Chick Workholding website). As such I drag what I need into a new file that exists in the project I need it in, and it breaks the associativity so that any modifications I use (like creating softjaws) only live in the project and don't change my basic workholding models.

Hopefully this helps.

Atomkinder67, Great Idea, doing that!   I have my Tormach Vises and 2 Orange..   I am thinking locate the Cartesian on the left jaw hole dead center, same for jaws?   You are kinda answering my question, no associatives allowed on import to keep someone from importing a project with a 1000, or worse associative on top of associative, on top top of associative, on top top top of associative ad nauseum X humans X to th googol power?
