create simple text

I have been trying to create a simple text item to cut on my cnc. I have tried following the videos and other instructions on here but it never looks like the examples and I cannot get it to work. I create a Sketch and then a text box but am not able to select the Sketch to extrude or do anything else with the text. I have tried watching multiple videos online as well and cannot find a complete walk through that helps or is accurate with the newer version of Fusion 360. I appreciate any assistance as this has become extremely frustrating for what should be a simple project.

Can you tell me why wen I go back and follow your video step by step the text disappears when I try to extrude? I create a box and select the plane. I create a sketch and then a text box. Then when I select to extrude -2 the text disappears. I can't see what I'm doing different. Also, when I try to drag the box around like in your video, I can only drag the text box, not the whole box.

It is a thing in fusion a sketch will turn off after an operation is done to it like extrude you click on the eyeball icon to turn them off and on.

Do you mean the orange dashed line box you can not move?

When I extrude it looks like it lowers the box and not the text. I can't select the text to extrude.

You look for the color change before selecting what you want selected.

I add a box, then sketch and text. 

Then I select Extrude

and the whole block drops and the text is gone,

I'm trying to follow the previous steps but don't know what's happening. I even tried exploding text first but no luck. Any ideas?
