Converting complex mesh to solid model for machining

I'm about to buy an Einscan 3D scanner and I know the output will be either an STL file or OBJ file with meshes with a very large number of triangles. Much more than Fusion can handle

I have watched many videos and read many explanations of how to import and convert complex mesh stl files into solids for machining using Fusion 360.

They all show the need to reduce the number of mesh to enable Fusion to convert Mesh to BRep.  But this loses resolution and details in the designed part. If I lose the detail at the small scale at say 1ft it will be exaggerated when I scale the part to 6ft.

Is there another Autodesk product which can do the conversion without losing the details ?

I thought Remake, but I think that is now Recap.  Can that do it ?

Maybe it is Netapp ?

What is the best workflow from 3d scanner to scaled up detailed part for CAM ?

This must be a very common question.

Please help. Thank you - Tony

You can machine directly from the mesh without conversion or do you need to modify the scan as well?

If you really need to convert to a BRep take a look at this thread.

Hi Tony, Since April 2017, Fusion CAM added the capacity to machine directly from a mesh model--either .stl or .obj will work fine. I've built CAM files directly from scans with great success.

Depending on the size of the mesh, it can still be useful to reduce the polygon count to speed up processing power. I suggest trying a few versions, with different polygon counts, and then picking the best balance between resolution/software speed.
