Is there a way in Fusion for conical roughing strategy for long parts? Currently I am programming these parts with HSMWorks.

For long workpieces this saves a lot of chatter and tool life.

Looks like the old roughing\finishing strategy allows it, you need to enable in preferences. Looking at your image it looks like HSM might still be using the old Profile strategy. Can't see anything in the new strategies.

Thank you Mark,

That makes me think, not everything new is an improvement..

If it is available for a limited time, it looks that Autodesk is removing features instead of improving features. I hope I am being proven wrong.. I hope Autodesk will keep this feature available.

Profile Finishing does Contour passes (Offset the shape)

The only thing we removed was the control over the angle of passes, it added too much complexity to the toolpath algorithms for very little end user benefit. Generally if you're roughing a tapered part you would follow the taper of the part and that is still available. Profile Finishing +Multiple Step-downs.

Thank you for your reply Daniel,

I've tried working with this strategy in Fusion, still I prefer the HSMWorks version to control the angle of the stepdowns.

It really does improve the tool life for turning small diameter products and it improves the chipload on the tool. This way of roughing prevents tool chatter. Especially when turning large series of workpieces in stainless steel or aluminium. This alows you to get more products done with greater accuracy in less time..

We are making lots of small parts. It would really be a good thing if it woud be introduced again in Fusion. If other CAM-systems do not offer this function, it does not mean the function is a bad one..

As a workaround we use HSMWorks for these parts and the rest (second operations) are programmed with Fusion.

If you are still not convinced I would be happy to demonstrate it on our Schaublin and Spinner lathes.

I know that a lot of machinists out there would be very thankful for re introducing this handy feature.

@akash.kamoolkar  Any comment on this? I needed this the other day to help with roughing a long part. Being able to have the roughing passes at 10° keeps the part more stable while roughing. Was able to use the old roughing strategy when I figured out the new roughing strategy dose not allow angled passes.

For now use HSMWorks, there is no alternative in Fusion.

@instrumentmakerij-santing  I don't have Inventor so that's not an option.

Isn't this the same using the Roughing option in the old Profile op?

That's the one, but I don't get this option anymore.

Even when enabling the old Profile ops, it does not come up anymore.

I am still using the Solidworks version of HSMWorks which still has this option.

@instrumentmakerij-santing In Fusion if you go to preferences->preview features and turn on "old profile turning" you will be able to create a legacy profile turning strategy that still has this option. Meanwhile we will look into increasing the priority of adding this feature to the new profile roughing strategy.

Thanks for the info, I was looking under Turning Profile Roughing, I should have looked at Turning Profile. It works now. Thank you!

Did this ever get added back to the current version of Fusion? Trying to find it, but don't see it under any of the applicable toolpaths.
