Change tool speeds/feeds for all operations that use that tool

Basic question, but I have a setup with several different ops (3d adaptive, some pockets, contours, etc), that all use the same tool. Is there a way to update the speeds/feeds for all these operations at once?

Yes, you can create as many "Presets" as you like for that tool under the "Cutting Data" tab, then, when you create a new Operation then you simply select from the "Presets" list the one that you want for the Operation, see images for examples of the settings at the tool and what you get at the Operation under "Feeds and Speeds".

You do have to put the effort in beforehand though !! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hi @nathankau

Seems I might be having a similar problem, see my post:

Might be wrong but it seems if you alter any of the cutting data in an individual operation then that operations tool data will not be updated after altering the cutting data via your setup in tool management, I don't really understand the logic for this, must be a reason.

Hi @engineguy

The presets are invaluable but sometimes I find there's a need to globally adjust tool data within an individual setup because of setup specific reasons, ie. vibration, excessive tool projection, etc.

Then that is when you would be using the Presets to "Fine Tune" the requirements for a specific Operation, that to me is the "Logic" behind it all, many people change stuff in the Operation "Speeds and Feeds" area what some call "On the fly", this is fine but you wouldn`t want anything input there to mess up the settings at the Tool configuration, yes ?? Just IMHO 🙂

I think the variety of work we do here dictates that the presets are used more of a starting point, we just make to many very different components, small batch runs and one offs, including R&D. One day a big mining hub, next day a prostock manifold, etc. To many variables to be 100% tuning and trusting the presets.

Wish we could though. 🤔

If I adjust a preset, will all operations using that preset be updated?

Yes, the preset for the tool will be carried over to other Operations, for example, you have three Setups and you use a tool for different operations in all three Setups then you will get the same settings.

Always good to double check but it does work that way here anyway 🙂

Note: you need to change the Preset in the active document library, NOT the initial Tool Library. Once a tool is inserted into an active document and toolpaths, it loses association to the library it was pulled out of. We are exploring ways to maintain some sort of link, but that work is quite a ways off
