chaining - the logic of joining an open chain

are there any rules how to properly chain open contours?

I tried chaining, for example, from point 1 to point 10 on a piece that everyone who used Fusion has available.

I named the individual points for easier understanding with numbers according to the picture:contur.png

If I click near points 1 and 9: the chaining looks like thischaining.png

Totally different than what I'm trying to achieve

The breaking point is point 8: If I click before point 8, the chaining is in the good direction (clockwise), if I click after point 8, the chaining is from the 2nd side (counter-clockwise).

In how many clicks is it possible to select the string 1 to 10? I mean the smallest possible number.

Why does chaining not always take place in one direction - for example clockwise? The beginning and end of the chain

would be marked and the selection of the chain would be clearly defined in 2 clicks.

Thanks

Three clicks (a few more if you count selecting the type of chain you want and setting it to Open):

Thank you, the interesting thing is that if I select chaining from the icon or the menu, the selection behaves differently. I thought it was the same (and the icons are just a menu selection in a list below each other)1.png2.png

They are, the same effect can be achieved from selecting that icon:

Interestingly. But I wasn't able to replicate your selection with the icon selection in the window.

Only after turning on "legacy chaining" in the settings were we able to select the contour, just like you.

And another thing is strange... After turning on "Legacy", the chain in the list below (according to the picture) behaves strangely (as before turning on the "legacy" chain in the icon in the Window). Both selections were swapped between each otherselect2.png

Little bit of fail on my part, I had Legacy Chain turned on when I was testing that out.

Yep, with "new chaining" turned on, I get the same results as you. I've opened up CAM-51918 to investigate improving this new chaining method.

thank you for your response and for exploring and improving the chaining feature.

I didn't know that either, I would usually select 1-7 then 8-10, and fusion will accept this is "one" chain and only lead in at 1, and out at 10.

Please click "Accept Solution" if what I wrote solved your issue!

thanks for the comment. Yes, that is also possible. It's interesting what algorithm Fusion uses, since from point 8 the selection is counterclockwise (point 1 is the start). And you can try how the selection behaves if you move the start of chaining to point 2,3 and so on. Is there any logic to that?
