Can;t understand how to plunge to predrilled hole

Hello,

I have this part. I want to drill that pocket and when come with my endmill and rough it out. But I don't understand why the endmill don't want to plunge in the predrilled location. Can someone explain why?

2D Pocket and Predrill have long had a sketchy relationship. In most cases it simply fails 😞
Your best bet would be to use Plunge and define an Entry position. You may need to slightly adjust the location of the Pre-drilled hole accordingly, as there isn't any mechanism to "fine adjust" plunge point.

 

The other, slightly better option is to use 3D Pocket. That will behave a good deal better:

Hmmm, something odd for sure, as Seth rightly says there has long been issues with the Predrill/Plunge and the 2D Pocket and weird as it may seem it works for me, Must be something in your file somewhere because I couldn`t get it to work at all untill I deleted both your Predrill and Plunge Pockets and created a new one and presto it worked file, image below and modified version of your file attached.  🙂 🙂 🙂

Also just for interest it also worked fine with the 2D Adaptive strategy !!

Confound it all! I spent more than a few minutes trying to get his toolpath to work, didn't think about making a new one.... 😖

Same here Seth, I was going round and round in ever decreasing circles as well, got exasperated with it and just cleared out the bad pockets and then when it worked I did the "why didn`t I do that in the first place" Doh !!!

What I managed to figure out is that when the bottom height is set to "Selected contour(s)" everything works fine. But as soon as I want to change bottom height, I get errors. But Adaptive strategy is working well.

Okay. Looks like I found a workaround. It's a little bit stupid that i have to do this, but hey, if it looks stupid but it works, it's not stupid 😄 . Since I know I need to choose bottom height as "Selected contour", I made a little sketch witch ends at the bottom height I want my endmill to be:

Capture3.PNGAnd BOOM, I got the toolpath at the height I want it to be:

Capture.PNGBut I think Fusion 360 programmers need to fix this thing, so that you could just simply select the height you want your endmill to be instead of doing workarounds like this.

Actually the easiest way to change the height is useing stock to leave. You just measure the distance from the toolpath that is given to the height you want to machine and put that value with - sign into axial stock to leave. This way no sketches is needed.
