Can't import .hsmlib tool library?

Just tried to import a .hsmlib tool library but F360 does not see it (both OSX and Windows versions). The Mac OSX version apparently will only open .tools files. I understood from previous forum topics and blog entries that .hsmlib import/export was supported. Anybody know what's up with this?

Hi fdboswell,

I just tested the import workflow with both OS X and Windows, including importing to Cloud and Local libraries both, using .hsmlib, .json, and .tools file types. I didn't notice any problems and was able to successfully import the libraries.

What version of Fusion are you running? You should be on version 2.0.2016. To check this, go to the '?' in the top right of Fusion and then click about. Please update if you are not on the latest version.

Also, make sure you are using the import through the Tool Library Manager:

Import2.png or ImportLocal.png

Doing this should prompt you to find the file on your local disk that you want to import.

Hope this helps, but feel free to reply here or reach out to me directly at [email protected] if it doesn't and we can troubleshoot further.

Best regards,

Noah

Ok, thanks very much for verifying the funtionality.

The problem turned out to be that the Safari browser (gratuitously) added a .txt extension when downloading the tool library from the internet, so "Pier9HaasMill12Feb16.hsmlib" became "Pier9HaasMill12Feb16.hsmlib.txt", and consequently was not seen as a tool library. A further bedeviling complication was that renaming just hid the extra extension, until I turned on the "Show all filename extensions" option in Finder Preferences -- only then could the .txt extension actually be removed.

So, it was an OSX/Safari related issue, not a Fusion 360 problem.

OK, glad you figured it out! That seems fairly annoying that it added the .txt extension. I wonder if it does that with all unrecognized file types?

Either way, glad you got it worked out.

Feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] if you have any other questions.

Best Regards,

Noah
