Can 2D Contour Question using Stock Contours

In 2D contour, in the option for Stock Contours (hovering mouse over the option) it looks like you can select your Chain, and then clear the remaining stock around the selection by checking the Stock Contours box. Thus clearing the entire top of your part all the way to the edge.

When I check the Stock Contours box I get the same toolpath as I do without it. The tool only cuts around the chain. What am I missing?

I can get it to clear the rest of the material around the chain/boss by adding a few roughing passes, but this is ugly and doesn't seem right.

F3D attached.

Thank you,

You can use 2D Contour with roughing passes and a Stock Contour to trim and passes that would be cutting air. Add roughing passes and turn off your Stock Contour to see the difference.

If you don't like that for whatever reason and want to clear everything, use a roughing operation - 3D Adaptive or 3D Pocket. You likely want to set a Stock to Leave value and then come back with the 2D Contour to clean up the parts.

I see what you mean about adding the roughing passes and then turning on and off the stock contours. It just seems super inefficient the way everything follows the shape of the contour "boss" for the rest of the clearing. I was trying to find something that looks like the example below. It looks far more efficient and it will look nicer on the final product. But I guess in the example below the tool is following the path of the selected contour for the rest of the clearing.  Ah well.
