CAM Kernel error stops 2D pocket operation for programming?

Hello Forum,

I have a simple, 2D part that I am trying to drill holes into and then open those holes up to their exact size using a .25" diam. end mill. I am trying to use 2D pocket to open the holes up and I am showing a pre drilled area. I ahve set this pre drill diameter to the .375 drill.  I get this error ever time. See attached pictures. Thanks.

Hi @jgaertner

Can you share your project so we can take a closer look?  Could be a variety of issues.

Thanks,

Hi @jgaertner

Yeah, I have no issues calculating that toolpath on my end.  I am on Windows 10 btw.

I'd look into what @jeff.pek suggests and see if that rectifies this for you.

You could always try a different strategy if you still can't get around this.  Perhaps 2d Adaptive or 2d Contour with roughing stepovers will work for you.

OK, Thanks. I have downloaded the .DLL file and will try to extract it. It sounds like no one will be able to use Win 7 after March of 2022? That is going to hurt a lot of people like myself who do not have the where with all to buy a new computer or who are using older versions of certain very expensive by subscription only, now, software.

windows 7 professional is very stable for me and has caused little or no issues. I hate, the way Win 10 looks.

Hi @jgaertner

Have you tried any 3d strategies?

If this doesn't work, maybe a drilling (Circular Pocket) would work.  It will plunge into the center of the hole, but you pre-drilled it already.

It's not the prettiest toolpath, but it may get the job done for you.

For others facing this same issue and reading this thread. I have downloaded the .dll file and instructions but I personally do not have any idea where it is supposed to go? The instructions are written for someone who knows computer programming.  I did a "Search for several of the directory terms that they say you should follow to find the place where you are supposed to replace the existing .dll file but my computer came up with 0 results? So are these hidden files withing the registry? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Jgaertner

Introduction
------------

Jan 26 2022

This folder contains an updated camkernel.dll, which should be copied into the current production
release of Fusion 360, replacing the same-named file there.

This is a slightly older version of the file than had been included, and our testing shows that
it should not suffer the same problem as the other one on Windows 7 systems.

Please apply this using the following steps.

NOTE: If Fusion updates, it may put the old file back, into a new subdirectory. In that event,
this procedure would need to be repeated.

Steps
-----

0. Make sure Fusion is not running.

1. Copy the files in this folder into a location on your machine where you can find them again.

2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the directory:
%localappdata%\autodesk\webdeploy\production<release_id>
where <release_id> is a long string of letters and numbers.

The current production release should be "5f961055b6b4e87cb54d819910f25c62ea3df4be". If there's
been an update, you might see a different name.

3. Inside that folder, navigate down to the Applications/CAM360 subfolder.

4. Rename the existing "camkernel.dll" file -- e.g., to "zzcamkernel.dll".

5. Copy the "camkernel.dll" file from the folder you used in #1 into Applications/CAM360.

6. Restart Fusion, and see how things behave. It's only toolpath generation that should be affected.

For others who have the same problem. I DID get the patch to work. I had areal tough time finding the correct folder but the link, above in this thread has more details, and communications with Fusion staff that helped me get my my loved Win 7 computer working again with Fusion 360. Thanks to everyone for their help and patience.  Jgaertner
