Calculating thread depth

top left of the attached image is what im trying to work out, red horizontal being thread depth as that is shown, but i have a very small radius tip, does fusion take this into account and aim for depth based on the tapered sections, or does it aim to put the tip at the T depth

unsure what the standard practice work flow is for this.

thread is 1"-14TPI 2A and thread tool radius is 0.175mm

Hi

Currently It puts it at the depth "T" so when you have a sharp pointed tool(or with a small rad like you have) you would need to make the thread depth larger to account for this.

Generally you would input the theoretical depth and then adjust at the machine until the thread gauges correctly, then you would know the actual depth and can input that into the thread depth in Fusion, then save it as a template for later use.

That insert isn't too far off the correct rad of .196-.262mm so probably won't need much adjustment.

There are Improvements in the works for threading that should greatly improve this workflow.

Hello

For metric threads I use these files to determine the thread depth, for inch threads it would probably be similar to implement.

Interesting is the statement by @a.laasW8M6T"There are Improvements in the works for threading that should greatly improve this workflow.", that would make the work much easier.

Thanks

Yep, we've got some good stuff in the works for a couple areas of threading 🙂

Many thanks to the Fusion team, absolutly great.

Until now, I always had to create a test file to determine the correct value for Thread_Depth.
