Bowl Smoothing Question

Hello

I am trying to create a bowl and during the manufacturing process the smoothness of the bowl seems to be not as smooth as i would like from the ball nose machining. Can anyone see where I am going wrong?

Thank you for any help help you can give.

Hi

for one your stepover is a bit large for a 1/4" tool, I think going to a 0.015" stepover should give nice results.

secondly the Contour toolpath isn't optimal for this sort of geometry, it works well in steep areas but not soo much in shallower parts.

even though you have "Machine Shallow areas" turned on it produces odd regions of different stepovers which doesn't give the most consistent results.

I have put  some examples using Flow and Geodesic for you to look at in the attached file, see how they look for you.

Note that I have the Spiral option turned on for these toolpaths in the passes tab, this makes a nice toolpath but generates a HUGE amount of code which your machines controller may not handle well.  you may have to turn this off.

Thanks so much for the response @a.laasW8M6T I really appreciate it. I will give a look at your example and see if I can't get it to help me.

Again thanks very much
