Bore Cycle - Pitch vs Angle

Just wondering why there is no capability to define ramp angle instead of pitch for the Bore milling cycle?

 

It would be nice to be able to define it either way - alternately, if anyone has an expression ready to go for this, feel free to share!

I too wish this were an option. I think it would need to be internal as I don't know that it's possible to pull part geometry in an expression since the pitch will change as the diameter of a bore changes even as the ramp angle stays constant.

Neal, I wasn't sure how much could be pulled into expressions from part data (if anything) - I was just hoping, haha.

 

I definitely would like to see this as an option, I would much prefer this to a. calculating helix angle from pitch and diameter or b. using an adaptive path that could undercut at the bottom of the pocket, depending on stock allowance etc.

I think I've got this right.

If you want to calculate and enter the pitch from an angle use this.

 

Tan(RampAngle)*(holediameter-tooldiameter)

 

If you don't mind going in and editing the expression you could use this. The 2 is the ramp angle and 20 is the hole diameter, don't think you can automate any more than this until we can access parameters from the model in CAM.

 

Math.tan(2*(Math.PI/180))*(20-tool_diameter)

I would also add that if a single pass is acceptable, 2D Contour works and the finish pass will actually stay down, just set the Ramp settings on the Linking tab. It's multiple bore steps that are problematic in my opinion.

Sorry looking again today I got the expression wrong, it should be Tan(RampAngle)*((holediameter-tooldiameter)*PI).

 

And the expression should be

 

Math.tan(2*(Math.PI/180))*((20-tool_diameter)*Math.PI)

 

It was getting a bit late in the day and didn't see the error yesterday.Smiley Sad
