Another Update, Another Day fixing problems

This morning's update has riddled multiple files which worked yesterday with a bunch of missing selection errors:

Screenshot 2026-05-28 075306.pngScreenshot 2026-05-28 075330.png

These were working files when I left work yesterday. After update, not so much. This is not isolated to one design file, I checked 2 others.

I guess there is no known cause of this problem since the update was completely vetted as good. Any ideas on how to minimize my fix time?

Files are covered by NDA and cannot be publicly shared. My last foray into online live help appears to have given me an outside contractor without a signed NDA (at least he was honest). How about an honest to goodness Autodesk employee involved with the actual development to help on this one...

Could you ZIP and send me that file above? Please include (in your message) which bodies relate to what Setup and anything else that would be helpful in reproducing the issue.

Sorry, did not see this until now. I spent most of the day fixing this file, so do not know what can be derived from it's current condition. I just reopened it after fixing and regenerating everything earlier and it appears the WCS selections (X/Y/Z/Origin point) still reappear as missing after being corrected and saved earlier. I will zip it up and send it to you with as much explanation as English can make sense of about tree structure and component layout, blah, blah, blah. (sorry, Friday afternoon at 5:00 PM, I'm ready for a beer. Too bad I don't drink)

File and explanation assembled into an email and sent. Please let me know if this makes it through. I have limited and intermittent access to work email over the weekend, as well as less time spent hanging around in the forums (all by design, I don't want to be looking for a third wife), but will be checking in multiple times over the weekend.

File has been received and I'll start looking at it first thing Monday morning

I have been seeing the same issue. Fusion randomly decides to lose every referenced geometry. Makes the program completely unusable

gregblanpied_0-1780260935134.png

Appears to occur whenever I copy and paste new geometry from another file.

This just keeps getting worse. Is there any progress to report on Autodesk's side? I can report I am now sinking faster than I can bail water out of this sinking ship. I absolutely cannot get anywhere in these two files anymore. Xrefs keep swapping, selections keep getting unselected, and now 2D contour geometry selection windows do not show the start and end extension input boxes. I have customers bugging and those above me turning red to their ears.

Yes, we are still working on it. We think we may have a lead on what's going wrong, but it's not a simple issue to track down and resolve. I can recreate the issue from the second file you sent me and I've recorded all my steps and the results and have forwarded it on to our developers responsible for this area. I will let you know when I know more

I did not se the "swapping XREF" issue though, only the losing of the sketches to define your WCS and your slot pre-drill. Is it in the same file you sent me?

I went back into the first file I sent last week which I had thought was "fixed". The model which becomes selected for the OP2 setup on the "bottom" of the fixture on reopening is switched to the model on the "top" of the fixture for the OP1 setup. This has some nasty results when posting.

Good Morning Seth. Happy Monday +1.

The following illustrates the swapping of which xref model is being used:

Setup OP2 0Deg Rotation. Retains and uses the model correctly positioned on the bottom of the fixture:

Screenshot 2026-06-02 061525.png

Setup OP2 +90Deg Rotation. Was set to the model positioned on the bottom of the fixture. The setup now incorrectly points to the other copy of the xref'd model on the top of the fixture:

Screenshot 2026-06-02 061536.png

Setup OP2 -90Deg Rotation. Was set to the model positioned on the bottom of the fixture. The setup now incorrectly points to the other copy of the xref'd model on the top of the fixture:

Screenshot 2026-06-02 061546.png

These were all setup and saved, fixed and saved, and refixed multiple times and saved. Every time I reopen the file, it has the model in the last two setups incorrectly selected as the model in the top half of the fixture. This is the same model duplicated/rotated/repositioned from one op to the other. This file also exhibits selections found within Setup"OP2 0Deg Rotation" which now reference geometry in the model positioned for setup "OP1 0Deg Rotation".

If you look through the first file sent last week, it is strewn full of mixed up references in the setups. Even though the correct model is selected in the "OP2 0Deg Rotation" setup on the bottom half of the fixture, the geometry is referencing the model in the "OP1 0Deg Rotation" setup on the top half of the fixture. Both setup reference the same externally linked file, just different instances.

Once again, not good.

Waiting for any progress has led to having to reconstruct this file from scratch. After a day on and off of trying to make progress, I opened the file today and saw this:

Screenshot 2026-06-04 085618.png

This contour is picked directly from model geometry of the same model which is selected in the setup. I am hoping I am not just beating my head against the wall to get nowhere again. I am only about 1/3 of the way through redoing this part and am hoping it does not continue getting worse as I go on.

If you would like this file as a sample, please let me know. It has a whole lot less going on in it at this point and may be easier to pick through. I am not sure if this is related to the other missing selections from the other file or not. Right now Fusion is becoming completely useless/hopeless for getting this set of parts done. I hope this is not a sign of how things are to be.

There've been a handful of users (so far) who have encountered these issues in the May release. We think we have a fix in hand that will be going out next week (to the Insider build first).
As a workaround, can you try toggling between Direct Modeling and Parametric Modeling and see if the selections "stick" once you've done the switch and make your selections? We realize this is not an ideal workaround, since you lose your Design History, an integral part of Fusion..

That worked (for now) for the dropped WCS Origin point selected from the sketch.

That did NOT work for the problem highlighted earlier today with the missing contour selection. (Which by the way, clears itself by just going into edit the operation, saying NO to removing missing references, and then clicking OK to exit the operation without making any changes. At least for now.)

I did not try it on the file that is switching which referenced model the geometry is picked from. With as bad as that file is currently, I have lost all hopes of recovering it or ever seeing anything useful come from it again. That's 2 weeks of my life I'll never get back.

@ktorokU233T an update went out yesterday that should address the lost references issue. Can you confirm or refute that the problem has been eliminated?

So far it appears to be working correctly.

Switching back and forth from parametric to direct modeling fixed the problem in the first file losing the references to the sketch for the WCS before the update.

The second file appears to be referencing the correct referenced linked model from multiple copies at the current time. I have not gone through and confirmed the whole design file yet, but the portions I have done seem to be working.

I'd buy the developers a beer, but they owe me more than that for the mess to begin with. Maybe they can send me some rogain or a subscription to Hair Club for Men to replace what was lost over the past 2 weeks as a start in the right direction.

Happy Wednesday, Monday's cruel distant cousin.
