adaptive clearing multiple depths helix ramping troubleshooting

Hello I'm having an issue with the fusion 360 cam software at the moment. I'm cutting a 40mm deep pocket and I would like to cut it with multiple depths of 12.7mm using a helix ramping tool path for each stepdown.

When the toolpath finishes generating there is only one step down directly to the 40mm final depth. The helical ramping does occur but only several mm about the final depth.

If I change the ramping selection to plunge or predrill it generates the 12.7mm stepdowns. I've been fighting with the software all day.

I thought the file was congested so i cleaned it up but the issue is still occurring. The toolpath does not register any error messages either.

Hi @Anonymous

It would help to understand the problem if you could share your design with the forum. Just export to an f3d fie and attach here, or create a public link and share.

Thanks

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the interest sorry for the delay!

I ended up predrilling the pocket with a TiN 135degree 21/64" parabolic long length drill bit. This is my usual approach. I'm running these files on a PCNC 440 and what I'm starting to understand it you must run larger drilling sequences rather slow on lower HP machines. I then cut the rest of the pocket using a 1/4" 3 flute TiCN flat endmill with a .127mm optimal load at full 40mm depth. I attached the recipe. The program then does two finishing passes in a 2D Contour operation at .127mm stepover, 4435 rpm and .0254mm per tooth.

There's quite a bit of chatter on the left side of the pockets I'd like to eliminate. The endmill has a chipped tooth but its currently the only one I have to get the job done. Sometimes the chatter is better then others but I'm changing the recipes so often that sometimes I feel as though I take steps backwards and mistake which recipe worked best.

Thanks for the interest,

Look forward to talking this out further.
