3d prints get bad dimensions when exported via 3dprint menu item

If I export my model via the "export" menu and choose stl I can open the file in cura and it has the correct dimensions.

If I send the model to Cura via the 3D Print menu item it shows up in cura with the wrong dimensions.... a 4" print turns into a 3" print.

I am using metric in both places.

Since I can save the stl and then open in cura without a problem I have a work around but I'd like to understand what settings are getting in the way when I use the 3dprint menu item directly

Hi @hawleyw can you share a screenshot of the 3D print menu while exporting? If your document is in MM and you send the STL file with MM units set in the 3D Print dialog window, Cura should import the file correctly. Make sure you have settings like "Scale large models" and "Scale extremely small models" turned off.

Remember that STL files are unit less - this means that if you exported sphere 1" in diameter, and Cura assumes that unit is MM, then it will take 1 inch as 1mm unless you set the cura to think differently.
If you try to export cube that is 1x1x1mm from Fusion but you set the export unit as inch, the cube imported in cura will be 0.0394x0.0394x0.0394mm in size, since the model was scaled.
If you want your exported file to carry the unit inside, consider using 3MF - it stores the information about exported unit.

Hope that makes sense, if you have any questions feel free to ask.
