2d engrave not following contour?

I'm trying to engrave a fairly simple shape into a part. I'm using 2d engrave with a V bit selected, but instead of following the contours I've selected the machine is following along the outside and is offset by the width of the tool. There a setting I'm missing?

the engrave toolpath is for "V-carving"  

What you want to use is the 2D Trace toolpath if you want the tool center on the selected contours, use the Axial Offset to set the cut depth.
