I've never used a cad program before Fusion 360- was recommended to me on another forum. I'm trying to design parts for a model aircraft  and cut them with a laser cutter. I will need to draw parts for cutting from sheet stock. Also lay out cut patterns for multiple pieces from the dimensional stock. Is fusion 360 even the best software for this or should I get a 2d cad program instead? Remember I have never used a cad program before so all instructions will need to be in idiot terms. thank you all for taking time to read this.

Hello and welcome to the forum! We certainly go out of our way to not treat users like idiots 😛

Are you asking about Design questions (the process of modeling stuff) or Manufacturing (the process of getting stuff cut out)? I suspect it's the former.

Now, I'm partial to Fusion 360, having used it since 2014. I would wager that you'd be fine with the software, especially since you have access to all the Design and Manufacture tools you would need. There are loads of tutorials out there, YouTube has no shortage of recent content by some very energetic creators.
