2D Contour Toolpath - many many hours to calculate

Hi Guys,

I have a rather simple 2D contour operation to do on 168pcs nested onto a single MDF sheet.

First issue I have had is that selection of the 168 contours take about 15 min, as once decent number have been selected there is about a 5 second delay between selections due to slow response from F360.

Second issue is toolpath calculation time, have been waiting a couple of hours so far and job is slowly clicking along. Actually have two types of the same job going, with 'auto desk cam kernel' running twice on different threads - fully maxed at about 33% of my PC's processor capacity each.

Both files seem to have got stuck at 4.3%, 20% and 30% of the toolpath progress.

Any ideas why a 2D contour operation seems to take the 'life span of the universe' to compute when it is the simplest of toolpaths?

Cheers

DK (hard to touch my machine it is cooking off nicely...)

Fusion CAM really struggles when you get about 30 individual contours, compounded by the Tabs > Spacing. Since this part is very repetitive, I created the toolpath for the first three rows and put that into a Pattern > Duplication. Total calculation time of 79 seconds

You have a lot of bodies in your design, try making singular "components" for each body and duplicate those.  You can then use a "component pattern" and greatly reduce the amount of contour selection.

Following, RE: slow calculation times.  I have some jobs where the 2D contour takes longer to generate than the 3D surfacing operations, I'm not sure why.

Thanks - that is a very nice solution - runs much better.

Hi @kiteboardshaperNZ Thanks for feedback. @seth.madore suggested a very good solution but I see some performance improvments in the kernel too. Could you please check it again in new version of Fusion360?  I can't promise anything but it should take several minutes not hours. Thanks.
