2 DAYS - NOT WORKING

Anonymous
Not applicable

so im about to loose my mind, Yesterday about mid day during the day as I'm rolling along on my work I get the typical fusion slowdowns and black screens. Ok, I've been dealing with fusion for quite sometime and so I'm getting used to it not working sporadically during the busiest of times in my shop while I'm counting on it to perform to help me pull myself out of a heavy work load. Anyway, so the slow downs continue and I know that sometimes when updating or updates have taken place within fusion internally that things slow down. Well yesterday the issues that were preventing me from getting my work done have continued. Waking up this morning with a fresh mind cleared ready to perform and nope. I cannot post code again.

I for the life of me cannot understand why I'm getting updates in the middle of a work day first off. There is no one here that can explain to me why this would even remotely make any sense. As I feel this is super unproductive for the users and certainly slows down my work. Why not update the program in the middle of the night when all these machinists or users are not using the program? anyways, on to the real issue....

Now after this last update I'm getting errors every time I try to post out. so in short and to bite my cheek and be as brief as possible but I'm now without my work for a second day. I work 7 days a week religiously and im so far behind in my shop that im thinking of trying to manage a 8th day into the week. Well I lost two days this week, im depending on this program to work. to survive. I got up early today to make up for yesterday and im sitting here staring at the computer not even sure why its not outputting code when I try to post process..

I need this program to work - what am I doing wrong? Why do I always feel like im doing something wrong using this program?

Is anyone else having these issues?

WHY can I no post out code? Please help

I'm posting code with no issue in my shop. What posts are you using, where are they stored? Are you using anything like Machine Configs? What's your network connection like? What is your PC/Mac?

And for the record, updates are typically pushed out in the late evenings (USA time). It's not uncommon to get an update first thing in the morning, but you shouldn't be seeing something smack dab in the middle of the day.

Are you using a post processor that you have saved to a local folder or the supplied generic post? Can you share both the post and a part that is failing?

I am using the same post processor I was using before the updates, The generic processor found in the list on the drop down menu of the post process dialog box. All of my models cannot be posted out. Everything cannot be machined.

Please humor me here..

From the photo, it doesn't look like you are using a generic post. The errors returned are pointing to post edits that shouldn't be showing up in the generic. Just now, I posted out using the generic Tormach post with no issue.

Please use the ScreenCast option in Fusion to make a recording of your workflow.

We need to see your flow, your post, and your file.

I'm not sure about webcasts and I do want to say thanks for working to figure out the issue. Your a god amongst us mear mortals.

After downloading the post processor from the tormach website and manualy putting it into the post processor folder within fusion 360 ive managed to get the post processor function working.

if it wasn't for you telling me there was an error with the processor id of never known, how could I know?

thank you. You have sorted the issue, But my question is, why and how was the recent update able to trigger this issue? why didn't the update carry the new list of postprocessors or why was it only not working for my business's computer?

ODD and, thank the lord thy Sheppard I'm not working as a programmer for fusion. amen

I'm glad you're back up and running. I was taking a somewhat educated guess at the issue, based on the data contained in the error messages:
2019-06-28_09h48_02.png

All of those pointed to something else going on.

The generic post library SHOULD update each Fusion update. Why yours did not is a mystery. Not that I can do anything with them, but could you export and share your log files? If you don't want to post them here, you can email them to me: seth dot madore at autodesk dot com

Where did you put the post processor you downloaded? I hope you didn't put it in the generic post directory as it's moved and updated with pretty much every update, you should put it in the personal posts folder of store in in the cloud.

The personal post folder location is listed below.

Mark

Do not put custom posts in the generic posts folder. Use the personal folder. or another location.

Fusion 360 CAM Personal Posts Folder Locations

Microsoft Windows:
%appdata%\Autodesk\Fusion 360 CAM\Posts

Mac / Apple / OSX:
/Users/<user id>/Autodesk/Fusion 360 CAM/Posts

So yesterdays wows died out and around 5pm after wasting my whole day the program starts working perfectly fine as if nothing is wrong. Then this morning again I wake up to get caught up on all the lost time and I post out two drills then everything else wont post all of a sudden.

The solution to this is not anything to do with my output folder or the placement of the post processor because I use a generic post from the drop down menu so if the posts are being updated apon each update than how can they be working sometimes and other times not working?

seems the over updating internally is causing issues from my standpoint. From my standpoint my business is seriously suffering from this … 3 days this week ive been without ability to machine parts.

my business is going down because im depending on fusion360, Im investing my shops time in this program and my own personal time and energy trying to diagnose issues instead of productively putting my attention towards machining and output of production parts, its the middle of a work day and im posting in a forum to get my business working again... why?

Now time to go home and tell my wife for the 3rd day I lost money again. Cant wait to look at her in the eyes when I say it too...

I don't get any problems you're seeing and it doesn't seem anyone else is either or the forum would be full of complaints. One difference for me is I've copied my working posts to the cloud so updates can't affect them. Not sure that makes any real difference though as I'm sure there are others working with just the generic posts and no one else is complaining.

One bit of advice though, export the working post and keep a copy just in case they ever make an edit that does affect you.

I think there might be something wrong with your install, might be worth doing a clean uninstall reinstall, use the uninstall tool here. Make sure all your designs are saved to the cloud and finished syncing first.

Thanks for your reply, the key point to focus on might be that no matter how I post weather it be from stored cloud drop down menu generic body posts within the directory on fusion preinstalled list or posting using a manually downloaded directly from Tormach website of post processors and put into the personal folder - it doesn’t work every time . I get errors stating the work offsets not specified and then a no post. It then oddly enough randomly starts working hours later

I know sounds crazy right .......ha ha ha

I will uninstalling and try again head down and digging

Why did this happen? How does it...

When this happens have you tried to post using a different post processor, not a Tormach post to see if you still get the error? What is your D drive, any chance it faulty?

Sometimes it's just your turn for a bad day! All I can say from running a business myself is have backups because if it can go wrong it will also if it can't go wrong it will, pretty much the lesson is unbelievable things will go wrong just when you don't need it. I have 2 PCs at work plus a laptop if needed, several cnc mills 2 cnc lathes and 2 4 axis wire eroders. I could get rid of half of the machines but I know I need backups. Have you got another PC Fusion will run on to see if you get the same problems.

Seems to me that you missed the point. Internet is full of complains.
https://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/cad-cam/absolutely-furious-autodesk-fusion-365708/

Fusion forums are not, as why Autodesk would let that happen?

You, specifically, blindly put your head in to the send, and blame everybody else including my machine (Fadal 4020, what did cut really complicated parts for Zimmer Medical for 8 years, in full 5A, with Renishaw full suite) what I made to cut beautiful cavity, with really intricate shape, using F360 BEFORE UPDATE.

I told you before: Why you reply on somebodies misery, with attack on them, instead to help understanding the problem?

BEFORE update F360 posted all correct, and machine did cut perfect.
AFTER update the whole **** load was created on users.
That's The Start. The main problem. BEFORE - AFTER. Get it?

All due respect @veso58S5W  bot Mark Hughes and I use Fusion 360 on a daily basis for our own full time shops. And I assure you, the stuff I'm doing, while it's not mold work can be rather complex.

You having a problem is not the same as everyone having a problem. Aside from your slow lead-in issue (which was a ramping setting) are you experiencing more issues?

In regards to the question from Pegasus; you'd be surprised how many problems are cured by a good ol' reboot of the PC and Fusion

@Anonymous  One thing that sometimes works for silly little errors like yours.

Is to turn the net off when fusion is going reboot the computer keep it offline start fusion when it is up and going do another reboot start the computer back up get fusion going then turn the net back on.

This can and does forces anything that is stuck somewhere in fusion to stop, the reboot and restart offline keeps something that needs the net to stay where it is and weight, then when you go back online whatever it is will do what it needs to do or it will do it on the next startup of fusion.

Sounds silly but can work.

This is my fun for the day.
