Create Permission for Item Clone

Create Permission for Item Clone

Currently, there is not a permission setting in modern nor classic that allows admins to restrict which user groups can clone records.  We can restrict creating as a whole but we cannot say "these users can create but cannot clone existing items."

Hi @katelyndwilson ,

Thanks for filing this. I'm moving it to Under Review, as we have heard this feedback from other customers and we need to gather a bit more technical information before giving a definitive answer on how we are going to proceed.

Thanks,

Giliar

I also need this in classic. we should be able to turn off permissions to not allow Cloning records, this causes too many issues with custom fields.

I also need this function urgently!

There are always bugs that need to be corrected when users use the Clone feature. I it should always be created manually, instead of clone a existing one. As long as they have permission to do it, it will be happen.

Hello @giliar.defriesperez

Do you have any news about Permission for Item Clone, since it was put in status "Under Review" in 2019?

I have a customer meeting and if there is any news about it, it would be great if somthing new could be told to the customer or if a solution is comming.

has there been any progress on this permission? maybe under review means that nothing is happening.

Hello @richard.valdez

Thanks for your request. @giliar.defriesperez set this ideas "Under Review". However, I never get any feedback, what is going on. Unfortunately, I can't tell you if Autodesk is still working on this or is it forgotten.

probably ignored...

Apologies for the lack of follow up on this. The requested enhancement is not in the product roadmap for next 6-12 months. This means that Item Clone capability will continue to rely on "Add Items" permission, as it does today.

the original idea was from 2019. I'm guessing this was not seen back then?

We continue to hear of use cases for this permission split for cloning and creating. There are many cases where users should be able to create new items but not clone, as they may need to know what information absolutely needs to be changed. Record cloning often needs to be restricted to a select few and might be completely unwanted in specific workspaces. Please consider bringing this permission update into your current backlog.

I can only agree with jayna vroman. There are always problems with the clone function. Instead of creating the Item, the clone function is used.
There has been no information for more than a year. It would be great to know what is the progress and will it be on the roadmap in the next 12 months?

has there been any Progress here? permissions for Cloning is a must. we should be able to disable cloning for specific groups/roles this should be something that can easily be added.

How much support needs to be gathered for this to be considered? this cloning issue is a major one with how workspaces are set up. links/picklists/relationships etc. are always compromised and causes more issues that are not easily fixable. this should be on a priority list. this is a huge flaw with this program.

can this be addressed? WE NEED TO CONTROL THE CLONE FEATURE TO BE ENABLED OR DISABLED!!!!!!! ---OR--- if this clone feature will stay we at least need the feature to require the user to select every field they want to clone (so the decision has to be made) Like it currently does for attachments. the system has selections for options "Attachments?" "Bill Of Materials?" etc. these selections should also not be automatically selected. there should be a requirement to consciously select the "Links associated" and "Bill of Materials"  ---See Screen shot attached---Clone options.PNG

Can anyone at Autodesk speak to why this is being ignored?
