Every manufacturing company (I know) has BOMs where an item is present several times with different positions and respective quantities. An aluminum profile, a shat, a ..., is present several times with same item number and different positions and according lengths. Combining those positions to one is not working. The quantity would be summed up, which would be wrong and even dangerous. Creating an item for each manufactured part would be a proliferation of single items used just for one time.
bottom line, it is necessary to handle same item in a BOM with different positions and related quantity and position information like length or the like.
Inventor and Vault provide BOMs where same item can be present several times. ERPs can handle this as well. The PLM in the middle cannot, which makes a Vault to PLM to ERP integration impossible, at least for manufacturing companies.
this is pretty urgent, as it's a show stopper for all this type of projects.
