Hi Trent, All PLM 360 scripting runs server-side, as such it don't support displaying window alert messaging. Kindly elaborate on your use case a bit more. Also, the forum has several posts on ability to raise msgs via other script types similar to how WF validation script is capable of. Please review those and let me know if inline with your situation. Question: how would you imagine the experience if you go the API route instead of the UI eg. in a system integration use cases? Regards, -- Martin Gasevski | Product Manager | Autodesk PLM 360
Thanks for replying, the situation where I wanted to have an alert or a message array was validating a net promoter survey score was between 1 - 10. I thought about running a validation script but we have an action script that we need to run on save so that wont work. I will look into implementing an API here and see how it would work.
It would seem your needs are validation-like abilities for Item Save. Doing this within an action script to me is one way to meet the need; there may be other ways. We've been talking about it but nothing actionable yet. I am assuming if this validation raises an alert or an error, that your goal is to interrupt the item save, yes? -- Martin Gasevski | Product Manager | Autodesk PLM 360
Correct, I would like the script to validate the value of a variable and if it does not meet predefined requirements inhibit the user from saving the workspace and display a message indicating why the workspace cannot be saved.
Noted and yes, this is inline to a pre-event of sort that we are deliberating on why/how/what/when we do something about it.
Just a quick minor terminology correction as I was asked internally <grin> to clarify your request: end-users interect and save Items from a workspace, whereas admins interact with workspace definitions. The latter is a data type definition whose rules and closure are defined by admin to drive how the items instantiated from the workspace type would be presented and behave. Or as others would say, a worksapce is a bucket holding items that user interact with 😉 Thanks and kudos for the idea, Trent ~!
Due to the current direction of the product, we are not considering this idea for implementation at this time. Thank you for your contribution, every idea is welcome. We encourage your continued participation on the Idea Station.
