Moving Managed State in workflow

We need to move the managed state in the workflow of our Product Obsolescence revisioning workspace from the last workflow state “Process Complete” to one of the previous states, “[03] Forecast Update”.

We have around a hundred records in the workspace that have already passed the [03] state.

For new items in the workspace, the [03] state should be used to change the lifecycle state of the product.

For existing items in the workspace that have already passed [03], the managed state should be "Process Complete" at the end of the workflow.

Are there any issues with changing the managed state as required for these two cases? What would be the best way to approach this issue?
