Schematic components disappearing after saving files

Hey

I am doing an Electronic Design in Fusion 360. I created the schematic design ,2D PCB and 3D PCB layout.Thereafter i saved the entire project. A few hours later when i reopened the project, schematic components were missing and there was an error for no back/front annotation between the 2D PCB and the schematic. The schematic components show up in the project preview, but if you open the schematic the components are not there.

On another project which i worked on all the schematic components disappeared, after it was saved. In both these instances Fusion did not crash upon saving the projects.

Components being used in these designs are from a managed library created in eagle and stored on library.io and thereafter the managed library is added to Fusion 360 and the components are used.

I am using Fusion 360 version: 2.0.7463

Cheers

Mo

Hello Mo,

When working in Fusion Electronics, make sure to always initiate the Save operation at the Electronic Design document level. From there it will cascade the save to the other documents associated with it.

Additionally make sure that you always keep the schematic and the PCB editors open together so that consistency can be preserved. The second you close one and continue working on the other you will break consistency and create extra work for yourself.

If the designs are very far along then you should run the ERC and correct the errors to restore consistency. If you are not very far along then the easiest thing may be to start over.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I'm having the same issue, I thought @jorge_garcia had solved it with suggesting to save from the project window but that isn't the case.

By any chance were you working from the same machine?

I'm going to mention this is my original post from yesterday and hopefully they can fix it soon because something is fundamentally wrong with either saving, or moving from one machine to another.

Hi @Spragnut,

I think you are, but I want to be sure. You are making sure to keep the schematic and 2DPCB open together at all times right? Like I suggested above.

We need to find a way to reproduce because so far no one on the team has a reproducible case where we can get consistency to break.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi @jorge_garcia.

I am yes. What makes this more strange is I reopened Fusion to check and all seemed good.

I've made some changes this evening and saved via the project preview, I've also left it open for 5 minutes. I'll see if the issue repeats itself tomorrow when I open the project at work.

Cheers

James

Hey

I have tried the method of saving only on the project file which was suggested but,it seems that sometimes this works and all the files save. But in some instances thereafter on the same machine i closed the project and reopened it,my schematic components disappeared while there footprints and 3D components remained.

I did a couple of hours work over the weekend on a project, created some new library components, worked on the PCB etc.

This morning, opening the project at work, I've lost all the schematic stuff which means I have 18 consistency errors because the PCB is the latest version, these all relate to "Part *** not found in schematic" but what makes this worse is if you try and add the components back the nets are then wrong which just leads to a great big cluster **** of a project.

So I'm going to have to delete all the pcb layout that is affected, if I'm able to, to try and get them to match, so the 3-4 hours I spent in Fusion yesterday are completely wasted...

SOMEONE IN THE FUSION TEAM NEEDS TO BE LOOKING INTO THIS AND RESPONDING.

If anyone in the team is interested I can send you screen shots of what I had last night and what I've got this morning, but this isn't worth the time to sort out if no-one is interested.

And before anyone replies with "did I save from the project" I did yes, numerous times, I also made sure to push the changes to PCB & 3D PCB. I also watched to make sure the version numbers incremented, which they did.

Yeah I'm done with this, so deleting the PCB components to correct the consistency has now resulted in this...

There were no errors last night when I ran consistency check before saving..

Hi @Spragnut,

I hope you're doing well. That is a painful consistency error to fix. It implies a corruption of the file that usually requires diving into the XML to fix.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. In the short term a possible solution is to remove those components from bot the schematic and the board and then run the ERC again. At that point the design should be consistent. You could then add the parts back in.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
