Library content manager blank

Today I watched the YouTube videos from Autodesk on creating an electronics library. I went through and created everything needed for my part. When I created the part and tried to assign a package to it, the only one that was available was the 2d layout I created although I also created a 3d model with the package manager. I saved the library and restarted Fusion and when I open the library, the content manager is blank, although the "thumbnail" in the data panel still shows the schematic symbol of the part I had made. The whole time I was making the different components for my part the content manager was blank, but at that time I thought it was because I had not tied them together into a part. I do not know how to edit the part in the library when there is no way to navigate to it, or any of the components that make up the part.

I am running windows10 with Fusion360 v2.0.10440

There is a lot to unpack in that message so let's try to start from the beginning.

Was this a brand new empty library that you created to add your own custom parts to?

The most effective process I have found to be the least prone to trouble is download a 3D model for the component or create one from scratch and place it in an isolated folder. Mine is nested inside the directory where I save all my libraries to so it is close at hand but not in the way. This is where I keep my imported geometry because these files are separate from the "package" created through the library creation process.

Next change your content manager to the symbol tab and create a new symbol or import one from ultra librarian, snapEDA, etc.

Next you need a footprint prior to doing anything else with the 3D package. So follow a similar process to the symbol.

Let's start with that then we can get to "attaching" 3D packages.

Sorry If I was confusing with my wording. The actual problem I am having is the content manager being completely blank, no tabs no nothing. The only thing I have access to when I open the library is the toolbar and everything below the toolbar is blank white squares. This was a brand new library in a brand new folder and I have even tried creating a different library with the same results. The library has a finished part in it as I used it in a schematic and the footprint was carried over as well, but when I open the library its just blank squares. I am new to custom libraries but not new to Fusion 360 or Eagle. I am just stumped because all tutorials show the content manager populated with the contents of the library but mine is blank.

So you're missing all this when you create a new library?

new lib.jpg

Is it simply collapsed? (the plus+minus sign in the top right corner of the content manager)

Yes that is missing. I have tried toggling the collapse but its the same either way.

I have uninstalled Fusion 360 and reinstalled it but I have the same issue. The image I posted in my first post is what I see when I open a library. Unless there are any settings which I have looked through and was unable to find, I think this could be a bug.

Hi @aaronjinks91

I hope you are doing well!

For the content manager blank issue, do you meet  it for all libraries?

If you meet it for all libraries, you can try the following ways to see if they can fix the issue for you.

Way 1: Remove the QT_OPENGL=software environment variable if you have.

Way 2: Add a new environment variable  QT_OPENGL=angle

Please have a try to see if they work well for you.

Yes the content manager is blank for all libraries. I looked in my environment values and there was no variables named QT_OPENGL. I started by adding the QT_OPENGL = angle to my user values. I tried before and after a restart with no change. I then tried changing it to QT_OPENGL = software for user values and tried before and after a restart with no change either. I then deleted it from the user variables and repeated the steps before but in the system variable with the same results. To ensure I am formatting it correctly in the environment variables I have attached a picture of 1 of the 4 test I tried.

Hi @aaronjinks91

Thanks for your feedback. Sorry that those ways can't work for you.

Would you mind inviting me into your project to have a look? I will send my email to you as a private message.

Could this be some weird permissions attribute with the Teams hub? @aaronjinks91 are you the project owner?

Blank windows like this will either be from a Javascript crash or from the web engine failing to initialize.
Since it has been this way for you from the beginning, and you content works on our machines, it's most likely that a failure with the web engine.  That could be based on your graphics card or graphics card setup, so it will be helpful if you can share all the information about your hardware and graphics card.

I would suggest making sure you are up do date, the July release has some changes that will help us diagnose this.

I am also wondering if the package generator works for you or if that is also failing.  Did you use the generator to create the TSSOP-20?  If not, you can try out the generator by clicking "new package" in the toolbar, and the window with different IPC families to generate should be displayed, thats what I am curious about.  If it is hidden, the package workspace has a button in the toolbar to show it.  When it's a graphics issue with the web engine that window tends to also fail.

Sorry for the trouble, we will do our best to get to the bottom of it.
Thanks,
Chris

I am currently updating everything that could possibly be the cause. I've updated my BIOS, win10, F360, and I am downloading the latest drivers for my GPU. As for system information its a Nvidia 1070ti, i5 8600k, 16gb ram. I did use the package generator for the tssop-20. I see the package groups on the right and I have attached a picture of that as well.

I have updated my gpu drivers to the latest (6-22-21 v471.11). I have logged into F360 on my laptop and the same thing is happening which is very weird given I thought this was likely a local issue. I tried toggling the show/hide with no avail. Are there any other gotcha's that could prevent this from showing? My current Autodesk account is registered as a student account, do not know if that could have anything to do with it.

Wow, thats very strange it's happening on both machines.  That window really has no ties to account so I can't see that being the reason, but I'm considering everything now, maybe its worth spinning up a trial account as another test. (edit: our QA will handle verifying this tonight you don't need to make another account).   This is not a situation we have come across before, but our last release did have some content manager changes so it's possible that you are the first to report some issue with those changes.  I'll keep investigating.

I don't really expect this to help but its worth also trying to drag the library tab out into an external window.  If there is a crash that will reset things.  But seems like it's not crashing, it's failing to ever initialize, so I doubt that will fix it.

When you open a new library, are you seeing any flashing or flickering?  Any grey in the top window even for a moment?  or is it just totally white the whole time?

When testing this on my laptop there was a small flicker in the center when i toggle expand or collapse. I will get a screen capsure tommorow when im back home, but this happened very quickly and looked like streched text or something similar to barcode.

Has this ever been fixed? I'ts still blank for me. I've updated everything, set the environment variable, but it's still the same.

I could never find a "solution" for this. The content manager started working on my 2nd machine after a few updates, and shortly after this, my primary machine was due for a re image which "fixed" the issue. Not sure if it was a fusion update paired with the fact I do a lot of strange things with my machine, or just a freak windows issue that happens to the unfortunate.

I kind of found a "fix"... well more the only think that made it come back:

- clean windows install

that did the trick although i feel like it's a bit much for a fix
