How to Fill Blind and Buried Vias

I am being told by my PCB supplier the blind and buried vias are not filled but the through hole vias are.

How do I make sure my blind and buried vias are filled. I'm using them to connect signals from one layer to an inner layer. They need to be conductive.

Please help.

Thank you.

Is a filled via the same as a plated via?

If not, I meant to ask how to assure all the vias are plated.

Thank you.

Hi @RCBakerBorn,

I hope this message finds you well. That is unusual, usually board houses will plate all of the drills unless otherwise specified.

Gerbers and drill files don't specify this, so generally you would just let your board house know that you want all of the drills plated. Filled is not the same as a plated via.

A filled via is usually filled with a thermally and electrically conductive substance to help pull heat out from internal layers or improve current carrying capacity.

If your application calls for it, you can request filled vias from your manufacturer but it does increase the cost of the board so make sure you need it.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
