Group Copy/past not working properly in library footprint editor

Hello,

I have a matrix of component (only footprints, no 3D) in my design, I "decided" to change the way I manage it, to make a component out of this component matrix (only footprints) - mainly for performance reason. As I can not use script as it's slow as hell, I'm placing my component by hand (matrix is about 44x134=5896). To save time I tried to use copy/past function (copying columns of my matrix). And this does not work properly!

When I select several lines and pads (that constitutes one of my matrix "column"), and then make a copy/group, it moves the lines and pads without copying them... Moreover it creates new lines connecting my lines to the initial location → Not usable → I loose my time → I get nervous → I write this post → I loose my time even more

Please do something as I'm doing this modification in the hope that Fusion will be more responsive after that change.

So as I told in a previous post, each time I use fusion, I get nervous. I feel like most of my time in Fusion is spent trying to workaround issue created by the software. Frankly speaking, I never saw that in a released software.

Regards,

Sebastien Colin

Hi @sebastienN38NE,

I realize what you are trying to do but this is a little risky. Copying from a PCB into the library can sometimes create issues since there are features in the board that don't fully translate to the library.

If you want to explore this route, don't try to bring everything to a single component.  Take your array and break it down into 8 or 16 chunks. This will give you better control and if there is any speed improvement to be gained you will see it by going down from 5896 components to 8,16 or even 32.

Like I asked on the other thread having the file for testing can help use figure out ways to improve performance. If you are willing to share it I would be happy to add it to the boards of DOOM collection.

Hello @jorge_garcia2 ,

I'm not copying from the board to the Library Layout editor. I'm copying from the lib editor to the lib editor. So no conflict issue. It is a normal copy/paste. Anyway, now it seems that he problem is not showing anymore.

I have the some problem, I try to design a TI components with 40 pads and I cannot copy paste the pads from one side to the other and its only a mirroring. With old Eagle I need 5 minutes, now I try 2 hours in the fusion 360 to make the component board layout. This is very bad. 😑

Hello @ergasies.uni ,

I hope you're doing well. Nothing in Fusion is different in this regard compared to EAGLE so it should behave the same. Additionally you also have the package generator in the 3D package that can generate 3D models AND footprints for you. That might be able to do all of the work for you.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
