Fusion 360 Updates for Electronics

Follow this link to get the May update details for Fusion 360

The building block of all electronic design requires the capability of accessing the available library repository or having an editor that will allow you to build my components quickly.

With the latest update of Fusion 360, developers have been able to improve the user experience by adding many requested capabilities.

Importing components from available libraries

In the Fusion 360 library editor, you will now be able to access components from libraries that are currently in use, or access additional components parts from the available managed libraries.  An import button is now an option when creating a new schematic symbol, footprint, or device.

Creating Managed Libraries

Autodesk EAGLE users can create manage libraries allowing them to share and remotely access their libraries.  Fusion 360 users can access these managed libraries but couldn’t edit or add new managed libraries until now.  In the library editor, you will notice a new tab called Managed. By selecting this tab, you see the options for synchronizing your library into a Managed Library.  You will be able to choose which managed folder you wish to place the managed library.

Package calculator templates & added library

Fusion 360 electronic library expanded to now include Hardware for PCB.  If you navigate over to the managed libraries from the ADD command dialog box and select the available tab, you will notice that we have added a PCB-Fasteners_Hardware library. Each part includes a detailed description and a link to the manufacturer.

No worries if the required fastener is not available in fasteners library. The package calculator now includes fasteners templates. Visit your favorite manufacturer or distributor and transfer the size details for the fasteners into the selected template. In a few clicks you will have the 3D model and associated footprint ready to be used in your design. In addition to standoffs, you will find a template for PC-to-PC nylon snap locks.

CHIP LED with a bit of bling

Developers have been busy expanding the capabilities of the Package Calculator. With this latest release a Chip LED template has been added. While rendering the 3DPCB you will appreciate the realistic translucent tone on your chip LED’s.

Hello,

I tried to push my libraries to library.io, but I found that all my 3d models I created in Fusion360 and are part of those libraries are not synced and they are missing on library.io after "successful" push, giving me error 404, followed by my credentials:

Error 404: The requested content does not exist.
If this error is unexpected, please report it to
Autodesk Support and include the information below.

There is also another problem with syncing libraries created directly in Fusion360:

When they are created e.g. on my work computer, they are somehow "not available" in Library Manager on my home computer or other account, until I open them in home computer, make some small change and save them there... Then, similarly, I can't use that latest version of library on my work computer until I make a change and save it there again ...

Hi Krysapear,

Thank you for your forum participation.

1- This is a known error when models are inserted in the package editor, an XREF link remains.  If you break this link from the browser, creating a managed library will no longer have this error.

2- I will share your post with the developing team and get back to you on that.

With Warm Regards,

Ed

Please make cutouts work in any layer. Importing a DXF. file to add vector graphics or precision should be standard in PCB design software. I know there is a ULP, but cutouts are only supported in copper layers, plus the import DXF should be a native button in the taskbar, not a hidden ULP.

Hi Ed,

thank you once more for the simple solution! Breaking links solved the problem with packages in library.io!

Have a nice day
