Footprint PTH-Pad won't connect to Net

Hello,

I encountered a problem where I'm not able to get a PTH-Pad from the mounting holes of a D-SUB connector to connect to a polygon pour. Due to some design changes I had to replace another connector (with the same Pinout) with the current one. With the "replace" command everything works as expected except the two Mounting holes which won't connect to the polygon pour.

I modified an existing symbol which I downloaded here (for EAGLE). I added two pins - "MH1" and "MH2" (for "mounting hole 1 & 2):

I connected the pins:

Then I replaced the old connector in the schematic of my project with the new one and arranged the nets a bit neater because they were diagonal, etc. Since in my design all case-pads are connected via a capacitor and resistor in parallel to GND they aren't connected directly to GND but instead connected to "CASE". Now I'm left with this:

Great! Everything as expected!

However, when I switch to the 2D PCB view the two pins labeled "MH1" and "MH2" with net name "CASE" do not connect to the "CASE" polygon pour:

I also repoured all polygon pours but to no avail.

Something I also encountered that's maybe part of the problem: when I connect pin "MH1" or "MH2" to "CASE" it will always prompt me with the question wether the resulting net name should be "MH1" or "MH2" but "CASE" is not an option at all. I "got around it" by first connecting Pin "5", "MH1" and "MH2" and afterwards changing the net name to "CASE" but maybe this isn't working properly?

I would greatly appreciate any help as this problem is very frustrating since I do not feel like I am doing something wrong but at the same time it's not working.

Kind regards

Hi @m_eckhard,

I hope this message finds you well. Check the footprint, it looks like you have objects on the dimension layer at the center line of the annular ring. Those objects will stop the polygon from filling correctly and isolate the MH pads.

Let me know if you continue to run into problems.

Hi @jorge_garcia2,

thank you for your quick reply, I really appreciate it.

I wasn't quite sure what you mean exactly so I dove into the footprint in the library again. Turns out there was another hole under the MH1&2 pad which was only obvious once a moved the MH1 pad by accident. Must have been an oversight on my part so I'm sorry I bothered you with this.

However, what I found a little counterintuitive is that I couldn't select the hole at first even though I had all layers and all types in the selection filter turned on. I had to also select the "Layer 45 holes" on the top left. This is strange because I could still move pads and lines on different layers when I hadn't selected the respective layer in the top left. There seems to be an exception for holes (and maybe also other object types?). Is this behaviour intended?

Kind regards

Hi @m_eckhard ,

I hope you're doing well. Because the two objects are overlapping copper objects get priority so you have either go through the cycle select mechanism or turn off the pads and vias layer in the selection filter so that the hole then gets priority.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
