Electronics library "in use" but does not show in "add part" library list

Hello,

I am new to Fusion 360 Electronics. Trying to evaluate it based for electronics/pcb development.

For some reason I can download/use available libraries and then they show up in the "in use" library menu of library manager however they are not appearing in the "add part" menu. my understanding is that in use libraries should also show in the add part menu of libraries. The functionality was working for an hour or two as I added new libraries
(5 or 6) but now all of the sudden I only see the basic included list of libraries plus one of the ones I added/used.

I am experiencing the issue on both my desktop and laptop.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Is there a way to reset the libraries to fix?

Is there a way to manually move a library to a folder in windows so that it is "added" and shows?

Regards, Paul

Hi,

I have further seen that it is only potentially related to the ref-packages and ref-packages-3d libraries. I can put them to "use" from available and they fail to show in the "add list". Other libraries seem to add and show just fine.

Thanks, Paul

Hello @pdeboerHAPPN

My first comment is just a reminder that you are evaluating a marginally functional pre-release effort of Fusion electronics. I have been designing electronics for a long time with Eagle, which has always been rough around the edges but functional in the end. This is far beyond rough around the edges. I would expect the dev team to get it dialed in to a functional level fairly soon, but who knows how that will go. Personally, I am keeping my distance because my design work is my living. If I cannot design - it is a major financial hardship. My Fusion360 electronics tests have been interesting to see - but ultimately a total engine flame-out.

With that said - I have not had the issue that you are having. I made a test PCB this morning and put some libraries in-use, picked a few parts to put on a schematic without problems. If you are able to clip some screen grabs - it may be helpful to understand what you are looking at.

Hi Carlos,

Yes I am gathering quickly that it is quite "pre-release" and many small glitches/bugs. From what I can tell my issue is only with a couple libraries. 95% of them add fine, but then some just add but don't really add. Strange.

I am sure they will work out the kinks. For now I have come up with some work-arounds. I am trying to at least evaluate the product end - end with a simple new board design I have to make.

Regards, Paul

  • When I change PC's I can not see the changes I made in libraries .
  • When I change name of the library it doesn't show up in managed libraries.
  • When I delete a library it still shows up in managed libraries.

Have you encountered these issues too?

Hi Paul,

I hope you're doing well. Those specific libraries only contain footprints, they don't contain devices or symbols. Because of this you wouldn't be able to add anything from them to the schematic, that's why it doesn't show up in the ADD command on the schematic.

These libraries are typically used as fodder for making your own personal libraries since you can bring in the footprints into your own libs and then build from there. So you have them in use, but you are trying to add assets to the schematic that don't go there.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hello @rbkyorem,

I hope you're doing well. Currently in FE you can consume content from managed libraries but you can't change them. Having managed libraries and Fusion Cloud assets interact is a very delicate operation with a large potential for data loss so it was determined to not rush it and take our time to make sure it works correctly.

Anything you do strictly on the Fusion side should be preserved but the interaction with managed libraries is currently one way.

I am experiencing similar issues with this. I have a local library I created. I was successfully able to add one package/device (created the symbol, footprint, 3D package, device). This one shows up in the add part list for the schematic.

i subsequently added another device to this library in the same manner (symbol, footprint, 3D package, device).

the device correctly uses the pins and passes checks just like the first device I added.

In my electronics design project and the linked schematic I can see the first device but not the second. I also have verified that the version of the library being referenced matches the version containing the new second device.

I am completely puzzled...

Hi @a.days,

I hope you're doing well. Did you do anything else to the library? Did you rename it or anything like that?

I'm going to have this part of thread moving forward turned into it's own thread since it's different from the original issue.

yeah I actually am seeing a bunch of threads essentially that are this. Is there an ideal "master thread" to coalesce this issue into?

to answer your question: at one point I did rename the library but that was before making some changes to the first device that DID propagate correctly.

between the first and second devices where was no rename. Only the new device which does not show up.

would creating a brand new library and killing the old one solve this and just cloning the devices over to the new library prior to deleting the old one work?

my schematic is relatively new and simple so wiping it out is fine...

I just need to get this second device working to complete my design project.

I am happy to completely start a new library if that will solve this issue.

Hi @a.days,

I hope you're doing well. The big problem here is that the cloning mechanisms are not in place in Fusion yet (they are top priority right now). So that workflow is going to be painful, you would probably have to remake them.

I've pinged the devs on the various threads that have come up around this issue. I'll report back based on what they say.

I will mention that recreating the library from scratch worked. However I am worried the next change will not propitiate so I'll be watching this issue.

Hi,

Do you found any workaround? I have exactly the same issue.

Thank you

Besides removing the associated Package and updating the library, that worked but I want the 3D model associated too

Second update:

Adding the 3D model after saving and using the library seems to work.
