Electronics - Custom pin length? (short, middle, long)

Hi,

Is there a way to change the pin length for the "short", "middle", and "long" options in a pin's Properties menu?

I think the lengths are 2.54 mm, 5.08 mm, & 7.62 mm, which causes me trouble in my 1 mm grid.

I couldn't find any default pin length options in Preferences, so just wondering if I can set these lengths anywhere?

Thanks in advance!

@cbond3617 , that's not possible. Actually it's not recommend to change the grid in symbol editor. It will cause many issues later to use the component.

Hi @cbond3617,

Just to further clarify in the symbol and schematic editors you do not want to alter the grids, you can change the units but don't change the actual spacing. This is because all of the parts in the libraries are built to a 0.1" grid and deviating from it will lead to issues connecting components. In metric 0.1" is 2.54mm that's why you see the spacing of 2.54, 5.08, and 7.62mm (1,2, and 3 grid units respectively).

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Thanks for the info guys! To be clear - Do the "issues connecting components" extend beyond the geometry of connecting schematic nets/nodes/pins/etc?

i.e. If I insist on torturing myself with hardcore metric PCB design in Fusion, any unforeseen issues with spending ~2 hrs saving the Fusion components I actually use to my own new library and editing the pin positions/symbols lengths to work nicely with a metric grid?

Example (attached picture): Short pin (2.54 mm) & Circle (Radius 1.46 mm)  -->  Fits nicely to 1 mm grid

Hi @cbond3617,

I hope you're doing well. If you really want to proceed you have to make sure to only use parts that you create that stick to a 1mm grid. You will basically be forfeiting the ability to use any existing libraries outside of your own, all of the libs we ship with and anything you might find online.

It seems like a lot to forfeit just to be able to use 1 mm spacing. Like I mentioned above you can use metric units without having to forego all of the existing libraries.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
