Defaults & variables

Hi,

Here's some suggestion - add user and project/lib defaults.

So, user defaults are in user preferences and they are global, but project/lib overwrites user defaults only inside project/lib.

Two types of defaults - one for schematic, one for PCB/footprints.

Defaults hold default values as line thickness, default pad size and corner roundness etc..

When user creates new lib/project, defaults from user are copied to project/lib.

Include two different grid defaults. One for schematic, one for PCB/footprint.

Reason: To keep nice style within project/lib.

Add option to reset values to defaults every time user runs command(eg., line or circle). Eg., user makes line with 1.5mm thickness(default is 0.2mm). Next time(if selected to reset to default values) line thickness will be 0.2mm.

Reason: To prevent mistakes since it's hard to see diff between 0.15 and 0.2mm line.

Also add variables as in Design module.

I hope I'm clear enough.

Hi @silvio3105,

I hope you're doing well. The next release has a reconfigured defaults system so once that version comes out take a look and let us know what you think.

From your description it sounds like what you want can be achieved using a combination of defaults and netclasses with the Autoset route width and drill checkbox. With that checkbox the width always defaults to either the netclass thickness or the DRC thickness depending on which is more strict.

Let me know if my understanding is correct.

First time I hear for autoset. What is it? Command?
Why not switch to UI and set defaults for whole project/lib?
Suggestion is something like templates. I hope next release will bring something like I described.

New release should be out next week?

Hi @silvio3105 ,

Auto set route width and drill is a setting in the Misc. Preferences under Electronics in the preferences windows.

Whats being addressed is more like complete set of global defaults. Project by project templates can technically be scripted but theres nothing in the GUI for them yet.

It's something, UI can be designed better(for defaults tab within preferences).
I would add two defaults, one for schematic, one for 2D PCB. For now I'm not sure what font defaults are for? Schematic or PCB or both? In schematic I use Xmm font, non vectored, in PCB I use 1.27mm vectored font.
Line width in schematics is 0.2mm, in PCB is 6mil(0.1514mm I guess).
