Default shortcuts

Hi, I found this list - https://www.autodesk.com/shortcuts/fusion-360

I cannot find for what F2 shortcut is used. I cannot set F2 for custom shortcut.

Is there any way to disable default shortcuts(eg. F6)?

Where I can find commands to execute?

Hi @silvio3105,

I don't know if the default Fusion shortcut system uses the F keys but I know that in electronics you can define shortcuts that use those keys.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Also, where I can find commands to change layer or activate something else?

Hi @silvio3105,

I stand corrected. I don't know what Fusion does with the F buttons, I just tried them in a few different places and got nothing. I'll ask one of my colleagues for more info.

The following page documents all of the different commands along with their syntax that you can assign to shortcuts.

I hope we'll find for what F2 is used.

It would be nice to unbind F2 key since I use F1 top top, F2 would be for bottom layer and F3/F4 top/bottom silkscreen.

Hi @silvio3105,

I hope you're doing well. So I spoke to a colleague and as far as he knew Fusion doesn't use the F keys at all and they are not available for use. Apparently, Inventor uses them but Fusion does not. I can put in a feature request for this.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Yes, you should put request to solve this bug. It does not seem to be big deal to fix.
What Inventor has to do with Fusion?

I'm going to bump this as well - I'm starting to migrate my Eagle work into Fusion360 and want to start getting my shortcuts set up so the transition is as painless as possible (it's still going to be a P.I.T.A.). HOWEVER, I've got assignments for certain layer views to things like CTRL+1 (top layer stuff) / CTRL+2 (layer 2 stuff) / etc. and I'm getting the 'shortcut reserved by Fusion' message for some of the shortcuts. It'd be really nice to know what shortcuts just aren't available to me without having to guess and test...

Hi @bandrewsHH3AM,

I hope you're doing well. Which shortcuts are complaining? I'll talk to our devs, so far I'm not aware of any definitive list of what shortcuts won't work in Fusion.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi @jorge_garcia ,

Just a start to looking at these, it appears at least these all show as 'Reserved':

alt+1, alt+2, alt+3, ctrl+4, ctrl+5, ctrl+6

Hi @bandrewsHH3AM,

I got a response from one of the developers.

"Numbers, F keys and many combinations are reserved by Fusion core. However, some modifiers plus numbers can be supported. For example, "Ctrl+2" is default shortcut for "Switch sch to pcb" in schematic workspace and "Ctrl+2" is for "switch pcb to sch"."

Since we built the shortcut system on top of Fusion's shortcut system we are strapped by their limitations, so there are going to be key combos that EAGLE could handle, which we will not be able to transfer into Fusion. With that said, you should still be able to get the results you want just using different combinations.

Hey @jorge_garcia ,

Thanks for looking into this and asking. What I'm hearing from the developer's response is essentially 'There are reserved combinations, but we're not going to tell you what those are. Users will just have to figure them out for themselves.' ...

I can't blame you - I'm just a little frustrated their response didn't bother addressing the actual question, which is 'What key combinations are reserved, so I can plan my new customized shortcuts around what I can't change?'

Hi @bandrewsHH3AM & @silvio3105 ,

Thanks so much for posting on the forums and for your feedback. I agree, understanding what key combinations are reserved isn't easy today and it should be better. If not directly in the dialogue, then in help documentation.

Here are some help docs showing shortcuts across Fusion : https://www.autodesk.co.uk/shortcuts/fusion-360, of course this wont count for system reserved hotkeys. In terms of function keys (F1, F2 etc) being reserved, I will research this internally and come back to this thread.

I would love some more feedback on the shortcuts system, so please feel free to DM me and we can set up some time to have a quick chat or chat over DM. We're always looking to improve.

Best regards,

Melisa

I'd love to see all key combos that are not in use, are free.
It's "stupid" to see that F something key is reserved for nothing(?) or user cannot use some key in electronics module because it's default for some action in other module(don't know is this case but who knows?).
Also, it would be nice to see option where user can remap actions to other keys(or remove key to do something). That would be top!

@silvio3105 , appreciate the feedback! Looking at F in particular, this is reserved for 'flip board' in 2D PCB. But as I agreed above...this isn't represented in the link I sent above and could be a lot clearer. I'll bring this back to the team and come back here when I have news in this area.

Best regards,
