Custom part woes

Hi - 

My apologies in advance if this topic has been addressed, but I'm at my wits end here.  I have done this before, but for some reason, I am unable to create a custom component.

I managed to create the component, the Symbol and the footprint, but for some reason beyond my comprehension, I am only able to link the footprint to the part, and not the symbol.  Please see below screen grabs.

I am sure I am doing something extremely stupid wrong here, but would appreciate some advice 🙂

In the content Manager; double click on te Device to activate it. Then in de command bar use the Add Part button and place your symbol in the drawing area. 

The idea is that the shown symbol can use an assembly of multiple symbols, so when you have lots of variations you won't need to draw the same thing over and over. (I guess.)

I'm new to the electronics but I have created a few components. The problem I seem to have is the 3d model is not showing up in the 3d board and I cannot find a way to link the symbol and footprint. My version of Fusion (

Fusion 2.0.19440 x86_64) does not have the same nomenclature as your solution. I have tried new component instead of add part but found no way to add my symbol.

I hope you're doing well. I think what you are missing is linking everything in a component in the library.

I think the problem is the package shows 0 pads and the error message mentions the variant, which I can't find how to change.

Hello @ldhetrick7,

So it's possible then you made the footprint incorrectly. For a useable component you need to have either surface mount or through-hole pads. If you can post some screenshots of what you are trying to do I can help.
