Coarse grid warning

How do I turn off the coarse grid warning that pops up every time I paste a component? I use metric (because I'm from a place outside USA), so my grid is set to 2.54 mm. Every component I cut is pasted into the same grid, so this warning makes zero sense and is extremely annoying.

So sorry to hear that you're having trouble.

Could you please explain this issue a little bit more? A screenshot of the error message and a short video will help us a lot to know the problem and see how to help you.

Thank you very much for your patient.

Hi @pstormarkG9SGY,

I hope this message finds you well. This has nothing to do with using metric or imperial units. Where are you copy and pasting from?

The warning pops up because the grid settings in the source document are different to those in the destination document. If you can provide more info I'm sure we can sort it out.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I believe this is a bug, since the source and destination is the same document.  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Click component (whichever)
  2. Copy (CTRL + C)
  3. Click outside component to deselect
  4. Paste (CTRL + V)

The aforementioned dialog shows up.

Hi @pstormarkG9SGY,

Thank you for that clarification. What type of document are you working with? Is it the library? If it is are you copying and pasting between footprint and symbol?

Something here is very odd, copy and pasting is a very common thing and we do it here all the time so for this to not have come up before indicates there's something interesting in the workflow or in the documents at play. If you can post and image of the dialog it may help.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

It's a standard schematic document.

It is also irrelevant which component is copied/pasted. I always get the message.

I doubt there's anything special about the workflow, as I didn't have this issue before.

Hi @pstormarkG9SGY,

Thanks for the image. I figured it out. Definitely a bug, it's complaining because the grid in your 2D PCB is larger than the default of 50mils or 1.27mm. If you change your 2D PCB grid to something smaller or equal to 1.27mm the dialog will go away.

I'm going to make a ticket for this because obviously the grid in the 2D PCB should have no bearing on what's happening in the schematic.

That's great. I'll adjust my grid in the meantime to avoid the dialog.

This bug still has not been fixed.  Has a ticket been created?

Hi @tgsell ,

I hope you're doing well. Yes the ticket was created, it's considered a low prio ticket. One thing to confirm, are you getting this error in the 2D PCB editor or the schematic editor? I'm guessing it's the 2D PCB editor. Just want to confirm.

I am getting this error in the schematic editor. Every time I placed a
component, copied a component, even copying net segments to create buses, I
got this warning for every little thing. I tried playing with the grid in
the schematic editor with no results. Since this was a larger design than
previous ones I realized that I had to google this problem. It took me
quite a while to find this post. Now that I know the workaround it is no
problem but before that it was a serious issue. I simply could not fathom
how this could be a product that people actually use. I always start my
layout by placing parts on a 0.1" grid which I never would have guessed
could cause an issue in the schematic editor. I am always impressed with
the speed that you guys fix bugs which is why I had assumed that the ticket
got lost.
