Can't update symbol with pin change

I removed a pin from a part and tried to update it in the library. It was already painfully routed by hand so I don't want to rip it up and replace it.  When I tried to update it the tool tells me this:

Error: Pin GND in the old version of symbol 20347-315E-12R_WITHGROUND can't be
mapped to any pin in the new version of this symbol.

Is there a way to override this or replace it without losing all this routing.

Hi @eric_engineer,

Removing a pin, fundamentally alters the component there is no way to override that. What were you trying to do?

I'm pretty sure you could achieve it without having to remove a pin from the symbol. 

I wouldn't want you to lose all the routing so let me know what you are trying to do and I'll be able to give more info.
