Attributes & BoM Templates

Hello,

I have a query a couple of queries if I can :

1) Component Attributes - When I create a component and modify the attributes (so that my required values are brought into my BoM), it seems that I am restricted to upper case characters only - is there a way to have lower case characters in the attribute titles? :

2) Special characters :

I the attribute titles I wanted to put some special characters, but it doesn't seem to let me.

For 'DESCRIPTION_PACKAGE' I wanted "Description/Package"

For 'RATING_MIN' I wanted 'Rating(Min)'

For 'TOLEARNCE_MAX' I wanted 'Tolerance(Max)'

But it looks like it won't allow me to do this- is there a work around?

3) What is the 'Attribute Sets' field ??

4) BoM Creation - I understand how to generate a simple BoM (using the ULP > Bom command)... Can this BoM be auto generated so that it is put into a company BoM template (e.g. Excel sheet that has a frame, revision, signoff, logo etc.)? I know that they have this function on Altium (which is a great feature).

Cheers

Michael

Hello @Michael_Dalby6FK4J ,

I hope you're doing well. I'll answer your questions in order

1) Attribute names are always all caps, no option to have lowercase letters
2)Special characters are not allowed in the attribute titles. The only workaround would be to post process the exported CSV file and change the headings there.

3) Attribute sets allow you to specify different attributes for different technologies of the device. The simplest example would be creating a set of attributes for the DIP package of a part and a different set for the surface mount package of a part. You always have a default set, you can define additional ones with the TECHNOLOGY command in the electronics command line.

4) Not by default. You could edit the ULP to make the output in the correct format, or make an external script to process the generated BOM data into the templated excel file.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
