Apple M1 / Electronics Auto-router hanging / never completes.

Hello,

I'm having an issue where the auto-router appears to be hanging / never completing in both Fusion + standalone Eagle.  I have to force-quit the application. I'm using a new Macbook Pro with M1 processor. Are you aware of an issue?

Thanks

Nick

Hi @Anonymous,

I hope this message finds you well. It might not be hanging, the first routing variant always take longer than the rest. Try switching to one of the other variants and if you see movement that means the autorouter hasn't hung.

As a rule of thumb the TopRouter variant will take two orders of magnituted longer to run than the others because it's computationally more intensive.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi Jorge,

Thanks for the reply - however all othher varients complete in under 60 seconds with the top router now motionless  / stuck on 9% for over 20mins now..

Very same file / process run on 2012 mac mini completes in 2 mins max.

Thanks

Just to follow up. The Top Router didn't ever complete, stuck on 9%. left it 10hrs overnight.

As a test I downloaded and loaded the reference design: OSHWA Badges_7 from your website > Ripup > Autorouter.  Similar Problem. All 4 other varients @ 100% in under 20 seconds.  Top Router works away for a while then hangs at 31.6%. This very simple example hung for 15mins, then suddenly completed.

My MacMini 2012 completed the entire thing in under 40 seconds. Seems insane the M1 takes 15+ mins to complete the same process

Using the same reference file - are you able to either reproducce or overcome the issue?

*for reference I am using MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020). Big Sur 11.1

Best

Hi @mail ,

I hope you're doing well. The M1 hardware is technically not officially supported yet. Fusion 360 itself is running in a hardware emulation as you probably already know. These things will improve as Fusion develops to properly support that hardware.

In the meantime you can avoid using the TopRouter variant to save some time. It's likely the 10 hour run would have completed at some point as well but that's not super helpful if it's taking that long to run.

I know it seems nuts, but remember that most desktop software is complied for X86 architectures, Apple's switch to ARM while IMO a better long term move is going to create some problems for software companies in the short term as we transition to support it.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
