3D PCB orientation

Hi,

Please add option to select PCB orientation while pushing 2D PCB to 3D.

Thanks!

Hi, @silvio3105

We do provide such functionality to define customized coordinates, but the entrance locates on 3D side.

If you are creating an independent 3d PCB, orientation is allowed to be defined during board creation.

If you are using a derived 3D PCB, you can not only define the orientation during creation but also edit it in 3D PCB workspace.

Thanks,

Yiqiu

@yiqiu.han

I meant on orientation while pushing 2D PCB to 3D model.

Hi @silvio3105,

I hope you're doing well. Could you elaborate? I'm not really understanding what the request is. If it's not what @yiqiu.han mentioned, then I'm not sure what you need here.

Thank you in advanced for elaborating.

So, I create schematic first, then push that schematic to 2D PCB where I create PCB's shape.
While pushing 2D PCB to 3D model, I do not see any option in push dialog(where user selects 3D model quality and amount of details) to select ref. plane for PCB.
Now, all 3D PCBs and 3D models in lib are created on XZ plane. How I can select XY plane during 2D-3D push?

Hi, @silvio3105

If your PCB is not generated from 3D and 3D packages come from the package generator in the library, they should always locate on the XY plane, Whatever the default modeling orientation is. You can see I am using Y up option now.

Could you please share with us how did create such a board/package on XZ plane?

Thanks,

Yiqiu

Sorry, I meant on XY plane.
That orientation makes no sense since PCB on the desk(while you soldering) is on XZ plane.
Also, XY plane PCB has weird shadows if you want to render it like it's on XZ plane(eg. on the table).
Mine default modeling orientation is Y up(like yours). I made mistake in previous post.

Yeah, at current. the only way to make 3D PCB orientation Y up is to create an independent/associated one from 2D sketch in the modeling workspace.

Traditionally, 2D PCB always locates on the XY plane. All of our technicians are based on that plane. If we want to allow to modify the plane 3D locates directly, the entrance and relationship between 2D and 3D need to be considered. I will talk with the development team to see if we have got chance to add a new entrance in the future.
