3D packages are detached from fooptprint and scaled way too big

Hello,

I'm currently working on an electronics design and I've encountered a problem when I push my 2D PCB to the 3D PCB. The packages of most components are not aligned with their respective footprints and the packages appear way too big for the most part. They even dwarf the entire PCB.

It probably doesn't affect the funcionality of the finished product but it's an eyesore and I can't seem to fix the problem reliably. Reliably meaning that it fixed itself one time by unchecking packages and pushing the 2D PCB to the 3D PCB and then checking them again and pushing again. However, when this happened I unchecked a completely different package which seemed to fix another "broken" package.

It also only happens with managed libraries i.e. libraries shipped with Fusion360 and libraries from suppliers like Würth Electronik. A workaround (which by the way also doesn't work reliably) is to edit the managed library and attaching the package to the footprint again. However, this is very cumbersome and I don't think this is creating a good habit/workflow. It also adds a lot of unnecessary work.

In the following screenshots I show you 3 particular components I'm having trouble with.

1) D-SUB connector A-DS09A/KG-T2S from the library Connector_D-Sub maintained by Fusion Electronics

2) Capacitor WCAP-PSHP_8X11.7_875115655003 maintained by Würth Elektronik eiSos GmbH & Co. KG

while only this being its footprint:

3) Common mode choke WE-LF_SMD_SH_7446632003 maintained by Würth Elektronik eiSos GmbH & Co. KG

m_eckhard_5-1681822629254.png

It completely dwarfs the whole PCB!

while only this being its footprint:

m_eckhard_6-1681822648374.png

All in all it looks like this:

m_eckhard_7-1681822700668.png

m_eckhard_8-1681822711796.png

By the way: this didn't occur (yet) with imported libraries where I manually added a 3D package.

I'm looking forward to hearing from anyone who also encountered this problem because I can't find anyone with the same problem which is very frustrating. I would also appreciate it very much if a Fusion 360 Electronics member  could try to help me.

there is a bug, for sure there are 2 topics already, but unsolved.

Message 3 of 20

Just saw them while browsing randomly through the forum. I'm surprised I didn't find them by googling...

Anyway, do you know if the developers are currently working on fixing this bug? Is it possible to see this somewhere? Are there any updates on this?

They are working, as Jorge written they're chasing it

They are working, as Jorge written they're chasing it. One guy has a problem with standard rlc part, I have similar problem with custom part based on built in part, where I just added 3d model and same library is used for 2 components. In the end, after pushing to 3D, on 3D view one component has 3d body generated the second one not. Some components are oversized, there is bug after bug and in the bug in this software. Hours are lost and nobody pays for that.. It is 2 years or more after my first tuch with this crap, still 3D model problems, still crashing...

Alright thank you.

Just thought there would maybe something like an “issue” tab like in Github I’m not aware of.

Hello Everyone,

The developers have asked me to confirm what languages and OS you are all using. We have one customer experiencing this using French windows so we are exploring that possibility. So far we can't reproduce this on any of our machines so any info you can provide will help.

Thank you in advanced for your help and for your patience. We are trying to get this sorted as quickly as possible.

Hello Jorge,

thank you for your quick reply!

I am using Windows 10 (64 bit version). The operating system language is set to german, however my Fusion 360 is set to english.

I don’t know if I am pointing you towards a red herring with this but I struggled to change the language of Fusion 360 and followed someones tip (I think I found that tip in this forum). This meant deleting some file (I’m sorry but I can’t remember which one exactly right now) from a directory with multiple of these files for each language. I don’t think it’s related but I just wanted to let you know.

The effort of you and your team is greatly appreciated! Please let me know when I can help you with further information.

Best regards

Hi @m_eckhard @a.a.toczek @christopher2KLSVU

Please have a look at the workaround post https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-electronics/workarounds-3d-pcb-design-messed-up-since-fusi...

I think it can solve your problem.

Please have a try, thanks!

Hi, it is not solution for me as I don't want to change my OS region and date format.

Hi @a.a.toczek

I hope you are doing well!

Can I know your region?

Another option is that you can change you Fusion 360 language and make it consistent with you region.

If the language can't be supported by Fusion 360, then it may not work.

Our develop team is working hard to fix this issue.

And I will keep you updated when we release the fixing for this issue.

Sorry again for all inconvenience.

Hi @m_eckhard , @a.a.toczek , @christopher2KLSVU ,

Hope all is well.

Good news that today we have an update about Fusion 360 version 2.0.16007 which has a fix about the issue you reported.

Could you please upgrade to latest to have a try? It should work for you now without any extra steps.

Thank you very much for your reporting and so sorry for any inconvenience.

Best regards,

Helen

Hello @HelenChen-ElectronicsQA,

Unfortunately, I encountered the problem again. It worked for a few days now but now packages went missing again. However, I don't know if it's linked to the original issue since there's an error message now (see screenshot attached).

The only thing which has changed is the footprint of the components. I edited them and uploaded the changes to library.io. I updated the design and pushed changes from the 2D PCB to the 3D PCB a few times while working on my design. This worked fine. But I just now encountered this problem.

I would be very happy if I could get some help with this.

Hi @m_eckhard,

I hope you're doing well. If you changed the footprint did you make sure the new footprint had a 3D model associated with it?

The fact that you get an error saying the library is private is also concerning. Can you confirm that you have access to those libraries on library.io. When working with library.io libraries you need to have access in both library.io and Fusion.

The more info you can provide I think we'll be able to get to the bottom of this.

Hi @jorge.garcia,

I hope you're doing well too. Sorry for getting back to you so late. Yes, I made sure this was the case.

Funnily enough, the problem vanished after I rebooted my PC a couple of days later. I had and have access to the library because I made it and I also made the Team in Fusion 360. So that's what baffeled me the most. But from what I can remember I also had trouble to update the 3D package from the footprint in the library itself. It said that there was a new version which has changes incorporated from a change in the footprint but I wouldn't let me update the package. I was stuck in the package editor and couldn't click finish because I would have to save the design but I couldn't because it told me there was a newer version.

Anyway, I don't think there's a point in trying to investigate in this at the moment since the problem is gone (at least for now). However, I would appreciate it very much if I could get back to you (maybe in a new post) once I encounter this again.

Hope you're having a great day!
Best regards
