3D package library workflow

Long time Eagle user, trying to build my new workflow in Fusion. This is my current workflow to get 3D models attached to footprints.

Team library

Inside library, select footprint I want to attach model to.

Right click and select "Create 3D model" That model opens.

Upload mfg 3D model to a folder in Fusion.

Insert that uploaded model into the created 3D model

Break link to inserted file

Save and close file

Delete mfg 3D model

Is this basically the optimal worklfow, or am I missing something?

Issues I have with this workflow:

Cannot directly attach a model

Need to have 2 files for each 3D model, eventually able to delete 1

Slow

Very hard to organize.

In Library.io implementation in Eagle, the 3D file was contained within the library, at least not visible to me. With Fusion, I need to have a folder for component 3D models, which often have funky names and no direct correlation to the library parts. This is not a problem for doing a few custom parts, but I often have dozens of custom library parts each design. This creates a organization nightmare.

Are there plans to clean this process up?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi @Tbaker25 ,
We agree that the packages workflow in Fusion has some kinks to work out and can be difficult to keep organized, we are actively working on fixing these workflow issues you described.  The best advice we have at the moment is to create a folder in Fusion's data panel for packages.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. I'll keep looking forward to improvements in the future. Thanks!
