When are DRC Design Rules Overwritten By Net Class Rules?

In the Design Rules Check (DRC) dialog box, in the 'Sizes' tab, it is stated that:-

"Minimum Width and Minimum Drill **may** be overwritten by larger values in the 'Net Classes' for specific signals."

This same clarification is not stated in the DRC Clearance tab.

Q1. When do the rules specified in the Net Classes dialog overwrite the DRC Rules?

Q2. Does this apply to clearances as well as widths and drill sizes?

Thanks

Hi @blaisebarrette ,

It's nice to hear from you. The reality is that neither has precedence always, it all depends on the values. In the DRC and Netclasses you are always defining minimums so whenever there is a conflict the larger (or stricter) of the minimums will win. This interactions is always in play. If you have a minimum width in the DRC of 8mils and your netclass has a width of 12mils. Your netclass will win. If instead the netclass was set to 6 mils, the DRC would win because it has the larger value.

I hope this helps answer the question. Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi Jorge,

thank you for your reply! I am currently modernizing an old CNC milling machine. I am designing a motherboard for the machine. The biggest project so far for me in Fusion electronics. I’m doing quite well I think. I wish I had someone knowledgeable looking over my shoulder! Hopefully, It’s not gonna be just a white smoke machine! Hahaha!

i used the edit in place with the 3D PCB to adjust connectors position… magical!
