Hi Everyone,

Thank you all for actively participating in the Fusion 360 electronics forum. Your participation is very important to us. The next time you launch Fusion 360 you will notice an update notification. We would like to tell you about the update specifically for Fusion 360 electronics.

Library Performance
The building blocks of all electronic designs is based on the components that are going to be used on the design. Fusion 360 includes a host of libraries that are created by our team of librarians and many more added by our partners such as Wurth Electronics and TE Connectivity, make sure you search our library for the parts you need. If you do not find the component you need, no worries, we have made it easy to make your own with the Fusion 360 library editor. Our team of developers has now improved the performance of navigating large libraries. As you switch between the list of Symbols, devices, and footprints you will now notice the list will instantly refresh.

You will also notice an improvement while searching for components. The search will now be automatic as you type your search criteria. You no longer need to press enter to invoke the search.  With these performance updates, you will optimize the time navigating and searching the libraries.

Library update progress
The package editor allows you to map 3D (3 Dimensional) models to footprints or create 3d models with footprints of electronic components using our Package Calculator. After selecting the template and entering the component dimension, Fusion 360 will build the 3D model and footprint in only one step. Now you can have your component created in moments. The package will be added to the library once you save the package. In this update, the package will now have animation on the data panel letting you know the progress of it being added. When completed, the package and footprint will be added to your library ready to be used.

Library Content
In this release, we have added new parts such as digital Potentiometers, A/D Converter IC’s, RGB LED’s, Bluetooth modules, etc. to the respective library categories.

WS2812, WS2812B is some of the popular RGB led’s used in Neopixel Rings/Matrix. Now you can make use of these fancy LED parts for your own projects. These led models are assigned with Emissive material, LED lighting effects can be made in the rendering environment.

In this update, we have also added popular Bluetooth SoC from Nordic Semiconductor as well as the filters Optimized for the Chipset.

Nordic’s Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Chip is basically a microcontroller with an embedded Bluetooth radio that is intended for Ultra-low power/low-bandwidth applications like IoT.

Edit in Place Point to Point
Fusion 360 truly fuses the essence of unification between mechanical and electronic engineers. By providing a single platform for both workspaces, engineers no longer must be converting files to ensure that the PCB layout engineers work with the latest PCB outline supplied by the mechanical engineer. In addition, a significant feature of Fusion 360 is that the mechanical engineer can insert and inspect the PCB in the enclosure. Traditionally, changes to the enclosure that required modifications to the PCB would need lots of communication by both engineers.

With Fusion 360, the mechanical engineer can use our Edit in Place (EIP) feature and move the electronics parts to comply with the enclosure changes. In this latest update, our developers have now implemented the point-to-point moving of parts. Now you can move components referencing other assets on the design.  This will make it easier and more precise for you to adapt to changes. Remember that all modifications done to the 3DPCB in the design workspace will alert the PCB layout engineer. That way, if necessary, the PCB layout engineer can address updates. This will allow teams of Mechanical and Electronics engineers to simultaneously collaborate on the design of products.  This is truly a paradigm shift to any other workflow in the market.

The team of developers continues to work hard on improving your Fusion 360 electronics design experience. These improvements will make it easier and optimize your design time.

Best Regards,

Ed
