Warning "Footprints with pads should be placed in the schematic" (Eagle)

Hello,

I'm getting this warning on the PCB and the component is greyed in the list. I'm getting this on ALL footprints except the one which are NOT represented in the schematic.

Working with Eagle 6 for many years and now trasiting to Fusion 360 I consider myself as somehow trained but on this one I have no clue how to solve, don't even know what is meant ..

Thank you, Reinhard

Same! I come from Cadence and I've never seen such an error. They don't tell us what it means or how to fix it...I will try to do more research.

Hi @bentrup,

Normally this type of error happens if there isn't an associated schematic. Components should generally only be inserted in the schematic and then they will appear in the 2D PCB.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi @bentrup and @APELC_PCB ,
Sorry for the confusion here, I will try and help clear things up.
If there IS an associated schematic, you must place parts that have pads in the schematic, as the warning says.  This is required to maintain synchronization between schematic and pcb.  The only items you can place directly onto the pcb are logos, holes, that sort of thing.  These are the footprints that are not disabled in the panel - footprints without pads.  If there IS an associated schematic, attempting to place parts with pads will give you an error.

If there is NO associated schematic, then you can place any footprint directly onto the board, but the UI incorrectly tells you that you cannot (by the disabled rows and the warning).  This is a bug and will be fixed in the release after next (November).  You can however in this case ignore the warning and place the parts onto the board, it will work.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks @Taylor.Chris,

For correcting me, that's what I get for responding quickly and not really grasping what the user was asking.

Thanks for having my back.
