Using Fusion for Electrical Schematics?

It feels like lack of an electrical (vs electronic) component library limits this part of Fusion 360 to PCB design. Has anyone developed an electrical component library for use on automotive, marine or building schematics?

Hello @myles_e_powers ,

I hope you're doing well. In old versions of EAGLE you'll find a library called Elektro which was tailored for electrical schematics in Europe. Fusion Electronics can be put into the service of drawing electrical schematics but it's not what it's really designed for. At some point we may start to tailor some functionality  for this but it's not the plan. AutoCAD Electrical is really tailor made for electrical wiring diagrams.

Thanks for the suggestion, let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Thanks, I understand that its not the best tool for my project but since this is personal use only, purchasing an additional product is not an option at this time. Just hopeful that with all the hobby users of Fusion such an extension might have some viability. My skill level is limited and creating a new component library looks difficult. Can this Electro library you mention be used in or converted for Fusion Electronics?

Hi @myles_e_powers ,

I hope you're doing well. The Electro library is in german and it will work in Fusion, I've attached it for you here. It should be possible to reuse some of the components for your wiring diagram needs.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Electrical Circuit Diagrams with EAGLE
Information:
Why not create electrical circuit diagrams with the cost-effective EAGLE schematic module? Schematic-specific additional functions such as terminal plan generator, subsequent insertion or deletion of terminals, etc., can be implemented via ULP/SCR. Or would you like to generate an electrical bill of materials from the schematic that you can directly import into your database system?
We offer the following products:
  • New! Subsequent insertion of blank schematic pages
With INSHEET.EXE. Works for EAGLE files up to version 3.55. New user-friendly interface. Compatible with Windows 95 and later.
    Price: €49.00
  • Electrical Bill of Materials Converter
This consists of the STCKLIST.EXE file (newly revised) and a component mapping that you can customize (editable from within the program). For example, your schematic includes a three-pole DIAZED fuse. STCKLIST.EXE generates an electrical bill of materials from the EAGLE component list, including fuse bases, screw caps, adapter sleeves, and fusible inserts, all summed up in the correct quantities! The bill of materials is saved as an ASCII file, which can be easily imported into ACCESS, EXCEL, LOTUS 123, APPROACH, or similar programs.
    Price: €55.00
  • Terminal Plan Generator
This is an extensive ULP file that simply appends the corresponding terminal plan to your electrical schematic. Standards-compliant. Requirements: EAGLE version 3.55 or higher schematic module, Pentium II, 300 MHz, 64 MB (recommended).
    Price: €95.00
  • Electrical Libraries, e.g., for S5-100, S7-200, S7-300
SIEMENS is constantly releasing new modules. Not all are included in the library, but the most common ones, such as CPU315, CPU314IFM, CPU 313C-2DP, CP634P, and many I/O modules, are available. The associated packages are reproduced at a 1:10 scale, allowing you to create a control cabinet layout on the .brd file.
    Price: Package: €45.00
  • RENUMBER.ULP
A useful tool for subsequently inserting and renumbering terminals in a terminal strip. It also works in reverse: for example, if you no longer need terminal X1:45, delete it from the schematic and renumber all terminals from X1:46 downward by one. (This version also requires the EAGLE layout module).
Price: Free as a thank you for your interest
Additional tools are in preparation or available upon request. Prices exclude VAT and shipping costs. Delivery to new customers by prepayment via email or cash on delivery.

Unfortunately the library file appears to be empty.

@myles_e_powers

I can see the contents of the library in Eagle.

This is what I see if try to open directly:

Fusion Electronics for Mac OS X can't update file
'/Users/mepowers/Downloads/elektro/ELEKTRIK.LBR'
(data structure is older than version 4.11)

When tried to import from local file there was no error and no content.

Hi @myles_e_powers ,

Try this one, this library is very old and going from 4.09 to 4.11 there was an incompatibility between OSes. This required opening older files in Windows EAGLE after version 4.11 and then saving the file. This would update the format and now EAGLE 4.11 and newer on Mac and Linux would be able to open the file.

This file should work.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

This was very helpful as a start to get relays and timers modelled for a system our workshop is building.

Thanks for the link.

It would be good to include a workflow for creating modular components from 3D models, so that this library can be extended.
